Ever been to the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia? This is nearly the same, with the most wonderful, interactive exhibits and rooms packed with artifacts from the entire, 1000-year history of the Austrian empire. Primarily focused on the history of middle Europe, you can find every...More

This is a great museum to visit and there is so much to see. They also have interactive activities that kids (and adults) will enjoy. All info is written in German and English. You will surely need few hours here.

You find here many technical items that are very well displayed. And between them interactive activities mostly via screens. It offers a good place for families with tenagers to visit as a variation to the palaces and churches

This is the second time we have been here over the years and the one lesson we have learnt is don't go during the school holidays if possible. It is a bit chaotic and given there are many interactive parts it can be difficult using...More

Another unexpected treasure off of the beaten path! With everything from full trains and carriages, to a satellite and old mobile phones and games consoles, this was an interesting learning experience as well as a wander down memory lane (feeling rather old just typing that!)

The Technisches Museum is a real gem in Vienna. It has so many different interactive exhibits and covers so many different eras and types of technology. I spent a couple of hours exploring the different floors, taking photos, and interacting with the exhibits. My favorite...More

Wow - we loved this museum. There are so many various types of things to see here. There are motors, and instruments, cars and planes, there are old manual typewriters, and all types of old household appliances. There are also interactive displays that are fun...More

Not only for technic freaks but for everyone and every age... Many interactive options where you have fun and learn something. Themes: energy, transportation... and much more! Plan at least 2 hours for your visit. Situated close to Schönbrunn palace, in walking distance from there....More

As someone from the worst of the Y generation I rather prefer the museums where you can be part of the whole thing - by having a lot interactive show-pieces. And this is perfectly fulfilled in the Technisches Museum. The museum itself is large with...More

Does the Technisches Museum have a display of antique toys and/or dolls? I read that there used to be a Toy Museum in Vienna but that has closed. Was wondering if any of these toys ended up here?

You are right, the Vienna doll Museum has closed in 2006 and all its dolls were sold in auctions. The technical museum in Vienna - i am not sure, but I seriously doubt that they have dolls there. You can find dolls in Baden... More

You can use also tram number 52 or 58 going from Westbahnhof. The closest station to the museum is Winckelmannstraße.
