The fountain statue was located near Karntnerstrasse with many shops around the area. This place was less crowded than elsewhere and was quite a nice place to stroll around and have a cup of coffee in the nearby cafe.

If you are walking the Karntnerstrasse from the opera house to St. Stephan's, about half way, and about one block off the Main Street is the Donner Brunner, a statute and fountain depicting Providentia, the symbol of good government, surrounded by 4 statues, 2 men, 2 women, representing the four tributaries of Austria. It is a large fountain with nicely... More

This fountain is lovely by day or night and well worth a visit. It is just off the main city centre and surrounded by lovely buildings.

One of the more beautiful fountains we saw whilst in the Austrian capital.Again like others have mentioned the fountain was not switched on unfortunately,we discovered it whilst walking along the Neuer Markt on our way to meet our coach.Worth a picture stop or just to sit and enjoy.

The Fountain is located in Neuer Markt and its actual name is Providentiabrunnen, but everybody calls it after its creator, the famous sculptor Georg Raphael Donner. The central motive of the fountain is the allegory of destiny (Providentia) which foresees the water supplies of Vienna and the four rivers: Traun, a young man with a trident, Enns, an old ferryman,... One of the more beautiful fountains in Vienna. Flip a coin into the water and make a wish. If you are near Neuer Markt viewing this is worth it. However, I recommend to combine this with other attractions in the near.

The Donnerbrunnen or Providentiabrunnen is a Baroque themed fountain in the midst of Neuer Market Square in the heart of Vienna. It was designed by Georg Raphael Donner in 1737 but gained fame when it was featured in "Before Sunrise" a Generation-X 1995 movie. The fountain shows 4 human figures, 2 male and 2 female, depicting the rivers of Austria.... More

We visited Vienna in March, 2015 and came across this really beautiful fountain. Unfortunately due to the time of the year, it was not running and filler with water, just the bare bones beauty of the fountain itself was available to see. Still it was quite beautiful.

We stumble upon the fountain while looking for a stand that sell Gluhwein. Luckily, the stand of Gluhwein was directly setup next to this very beautifully designed fountain. We actually drank our Gluhwein while resting against it and admiring its beautiful design. A great spot to relax and enjoy the scenery that Vienna has to offer!

In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
