You are in the heart of Vienna, with beautiful buildings and you can really see much history. It is amazing when you take a coffee in one of the restaurant or bars on the street. But check your limit on your credit card before, because there are a lot shops where you can spent your money ;-)

The same you see in other western cities: pedestrian areas, statues, shops, restaurants, cafes, pubs, a lot of people, old buildings. Just now in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Shouldn't be missed (but I doubt anyone can go to Vienna and not end up here).

City most expensive streets with all high brands shops and lots of expensive watches. True rich Vienna. Just for walk and window-shopping and enjoying beautiful facades. Pedestrian zone with some benches for rest.

With it’s start at Michaelerplatz is the streets of Kohlmarkt that joins further up from the Hofburg with Graben. These streets are filled with historic shops such as the famed Demel on Kohlmarkt as well as the creme de la creme of brands where high end luxury meets wonder eyed shoppers. On Graben, the streets lead a long path towards... More

Two of the series of pedestrianised roads in the very centre of the city, close to the cathedral of St. Stephan. A mass of shops, restaurants and cafes awaits you. You can window shop, shop or just sit ,have a coffee and cake and watch the rest of the world go by.

When you take a walk this is where you have to go through. Luxurious streets with expensive shops, for eyes only mostly :) Beautiful architecture.

My wife and I have visited the Graben/Kohlmarkt a couple of times when in Vienna. At Christmas time, the night time decorations are stunning. At other times, it's just a great place to window shop (our budget doesn't permit actually going INTO places like Hermes or Cartier!). People watching is also fun, pick up a gelato and stroll. Avoid the... More

Staying in Inner City

Neighbourhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
