The Viennese Orangery was used as a location for magnificent festivities as far back as the days of the emperor. We are continuing this tradition! The musical performance of the well known Schoenbrunn Palace Festival Orchestra accompanied by masterful singing and dancing will be the highlight of your trip to Vienna! In the longest orangery building in the world, you will be transported to the Viennese Classical era by the Schönbrunn Festival Orchestra with music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Johann Strauss.

I paid for one of their 6 PM holiday concerts that was actually within the Schonbrunn itself. The room was very small and fit about 100 hundred I would guess. It wasn't an orchestra, just a pianists, 5 strings, 2 woodwinds, and two singers. The music was alright for the price, though some pieces simply can't be done well without... More

Dear Yiyu W, Thank you very much for taking the time to write down your experience with the Schoenbrunn Palace Concerts at the Orangery Schoenbrunn! You described perfectly that in the off-peak season (November 1 to December 23 & January 2 to March 31) our orchestra is playing with a reduced number of our excellent musicians. We feel sorry that... More

A delightful setting for Mozart and Strauss. You will enjoy it, also. When they get to "The Blue Danube," you'll know why you came to Vienna.

Well, no longer you can find horses there, but it was indeed the royal horse stable in former times. Then it was the place to store the plants and flowers in winter. And nowadays it is a mini conference center. Location is close to the Schoenbrunn Palace.

My wife and I along with another couple attended a dinner and performance at the Orangerie Schloss Schönbrunn at my recommendation after I read reviews of the venue on TripAdvisor. After a very mediocre, almost cafeteria-style dinner, we couldn't have been more disappointed by the venue and performance of the orchestra. The hall-like setting made for a horrible first impression... More

We were able to attend a concerted which included a symphony, opera and some ballet. We thoroughly enjoyed it! You could close your eyes and let the sound take you to your special place. You can take the subway and the entrance is right across the road.

The music program consisted of orchestra with singing and also the waltz. The program goes on from 8.30 pm to 10 pm with a small break in between.

Let me be clear here - there is no access to the Orangery itself and even if there was there is little to see as this is used ostensibly for corporate functions and the odd concert as well as related storage requirements. If you look on your Schloss Schobrunn pass (we had a classic pass) it actually says 'Orangery Gardens'... More

Dear Steve T, thank you for your feedback on the Orangery garden! As we are only the company organizing the Schoenbrunn Palace Concerts at the Orangery Schoenbrunn and have nothing to do with the garden, I would recommend you leaving your comment on the tripadvisor page of the Schoenbrunn Palace. First off they sell the tickets on the street and I am suspect of street vendors. We did buy tickets but wondered if they were valid until we arrived. When we arrived the doorman told us we had to check our coats, so we got out of line only to find out it was not required- a ploy for more... More

One of the few parts of the gardens charging admission and it's an absolute waste of time. Wouldn't even be worth walking there if it was free!

Hello, please understand that the entrance in the garden of the orangery is NOT connected with the building of the orangery and the Schoenbrunn Palace Concerts. We are so sorry, that you had this bad expierence - the gardens are NOT under our management and we will send your critic to the management of the gardens and the palace !... More

Staying in Hietzing

Neighbourhood Profile
Hietzing
Vienna’s 13th district has always been in the shadow of Schönbrunn Palace and its gardens, but has interesting hidden gems waiting to be discovered. Allow half a day for the imposing Habsburg residence and the gardens with Gloriette belvedere. Reserve the other half to discover the secret charms of this posh residential neighbourhood. Sneak out of the gardens at Hietzinger Tor (Hietzing Gate) and head down Hietzinger Hauptstrasse for Kaiserpavillon (Emperor’s pavilion), an Art Nouveau gem right on top of U4’s metro railtracks. At local institutions Café Dommayer and restaurant Plachutta you can mingle with residents, their families and friends. Dommayer has risen to fame since waltz king Johann Strauss and his orchestra performed there regularly. If you want to go beyond private villa gazing visit Klimtvilla and Hermesvilla. Art Nouveau genius Gustav Klimt had his last studio in a now beautifully renovated villa, which is open during spring and summer. Hermesvilla at Lainzer Tiergarten animal enclosure and nature park is a must for all romantics and fans of Empress Sissi.
