Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Arnold Schonberg Center is more like a museum and a research center than a concert hall. The Center displays a lot of his stuffs in an interactive way. You can touch most of the things on display which can make you believe that you're invited as a guest to Schonberg's house. I love the part where you can find interesting comments in his phonebook or exam papers he created for students when he was teaching at the University of Southern California. The fun part is you can take one of his exam papers and test your musical knowledge at home!
On the more serious side, it shows how he composed music and mentored his students; most importantly how he lived. The Center also shows a lot of his creative & artistic ideas as well as (non-music related) inventions such as scrap books, art works and a new board game.
After visiting the Center, I can feel Schonberg as flesh and blood, and not somebody whose life is just on display at a museum. I can feel that he is not only a talented musician, but also a very smart and creative artist as a whole.

We visited this small facility and were bowled over by a simple facility that gave a real insight into Schonberg’s life and music. The member of staff we met was a real enthusiast and his knowledge and passion added to the visit.
It is definitely worth spending an hour there if you visit Vienna!

We did spend close to 3 hours at the Schoenberg center, and previous reviewers actually gave a good description of the place.
The next day, we went to a concert at the Schoenberg center. This was really exciting - you may know the 12-tone music from CDs - but actually live I found it more exciting. The complexity of the music really came out . The hospitality at the center was also quite pleasant.

There is a special atmosphere here. Don't be put off by a modest entrance on a side street. It is well worth seeking out this centre for its exhibitions, which are often extraordinary, as well as the reconstruction of Arnold Schoenberg's study in glorious detail. There is also a shop, selling not only books and scores but also fun items such as pencils, games and fridge magnets. Entrance fee is very small and you are made to feel very welcome. Other events such as concerts and workshops for children are put on here: the web site is comprehensive, giving much information: about the centre and its work; Schoenberg, his life and work; publications and much more.
To study in the library or research the archive, it is best, and courteous, to contact the centre before your visit to arrange this: the archive staff are excellent and helpful.
Schoenberg still causes controversy as a composer. A great melodist, his work is often misunderstood and even ignored or written off by those who have not even listened to it, with some particularly wonderful pieces rarely heard still. Although I enjoy his music written using the 12-tone method, I realise it is not everyone's preference; there is a wealth of rich tonal music in Schoenberg's work - while intense at times, it is full of delightful melody and harmony, a joy to hear.
The centre also offers insights into Schoenberg as a fuller human being: his fascinating character is so much more interesting and rounded than the many myths; as a teacher (and great traditionalist), his influence and generosity shine through. This ambience pervades the centre too, as does his very dry sense of humour and fun. Adults and children alike will enjoy discovering some of his many inventions. There is so much more to Schoenberg than the myths and sometimes silly 12-tone opinions - a lifetime is not long enough to explore this man properly, but this is a great place to start and even a short introduction will be well worthwhile.

Even for me...the ultimate classical music nerd...the exhibition part of this place is small and just not worth the price of admission. Did not go to a concert.
