The Danube Canal is not so great as the Danube river in Budapest. It is advisable to take a free ride using Vienna Pass and not to spend a lot of time here.

When anyone refers to the Blue Danube, they don’t actually meant this one here. The Danube is further north from the inner city and is a large river and definitely not blue. The canal is a branch of the Danube. This feels a lot like Berlin to me at first glance, with its compact banks, it’s summer ad hoc beaches... More

Graffiti, street artists, skateboarders, Segway enthusiasts, cyclists - come to a place where the locals hang out, especially in summer. It is a place to meet folks and to engage them in conversations, or simply to walk along the waterfront and pretend you're somewhere where you don't have to be busy...

we made use of the "red bus city tour" and included was a complementary voucher for a cruise ant sunset down the Dunube Canal. We had a great time with great relaxed atmosphere sipping cocktails and listening to history and viewing the great buildings and sites. Well worth a try!

Johann Strauss' beautiful Blue Danube Waltz is inseparable from Viennese and Vienna. Nevertheless, numerous visitors to Danube (Donau) River are disappointed to find muddy Danube River rather than Blue Danube River. Many river cruise ship passengers end up just sailing along muddy Danube River, and dock at the river ship pier alongside muddy river. Many river cruise ship crews and... More

The canal is a short walk from the city centre and my wife and I passed over everyday of our stay in Vienna when going to and from our accommodation on Praterstrasse. This was in December and there wasn't much activity but nevertheless it was nice to be able to look up and down the canal when we crossed it... More

if the weather is good this is definitely a good place for a nice walk and a couple of photos, with many small shops for snacks or a drink

Beautiful area for long walks along the canal while enjoying the scenery. Boats, ships, trees and of course, the beautiful old Vienna buildings. A great way to get to know the city. At any point of your walk you can stop and take a break at a good pastry shop or a cafe.

while we were in Vienna we spent a long walk on the banks of river Danube and the two associated canal. It has beautiful gardens and lovely view of the city line. One cannot miss the cable stayed bridge and two other bridges while on the go.

This is the best place for a sunny day.If you have enough time, go rent a mini bout, it cost 20 euros for 4 persons and you can take a ride on the Canal. There are a lot of swimming spots and sunbeds(Copa Cagrana near Onu City) and one can rent a bike for a nice walk. For family trips try the... Staying in Leopoldstadt

Neighbourhood Profile
Welcome to one of Vienna’s trendiest quarters. The second district has witnessed a turbulent ride, from medieval swamp to vibrant Jewish quarter, from pleasure ground for the noble and humble to current hip residence and workplace of Vienna’s creative crowd. Cross the Danube Canal from the city centre and take in life on Taborstrasse with its mix of old townhouses, churches, theatres, discount shops and ethnic restaurants. Head for Augarten via Karmelitermarkt, Leopoldstadt’s trendy marketplace. Baroque Augarten itself hosts a bizarre mix of manicured hedges and flowerbeds in front of a colossal World War II defense tower, the publicly accessible 300-year-old Augarten porcelain manufactory, the palatial boarding school and funky concert hall of the Vienna Boys Choir, and the modern art museum TBA21. At its opposite corner, The Prater not only houses the Giant Ferris Wheel but blends a bustling amusement park with lush woodland, perfect for a bike tour. Further east is the old derby racing ground of Krieau.
