Major shopping area in the heart of Vienna. As in many cities, most of the stores here are expensive and pricey. However, it is fun to walk around, get the feel of this beautiful city and sit in one of the many coffee houses, pastry shops or restaurants.

This is probably the main tourist shopping area with branded showrooms, pubs, restaurants and coffee shops. Mostly frequently by groups of tourists from the world over, Kaerntnerstrasse is a beautiful long road where you could spend a couple of hours. Most of the attractions are near and around this part of town. The most famous being St Stephan's Cathedral on... More

If you're not ready to spend €200 for a normal bag with 'I love Vienna', do just window shopping. It's always full of people except between 3 - 8am.

The most famous (shopping) street in Austria and in Vienna. Lot of luxury shops, cafes, restaurants, souvenirs etc. Very pleasant walk from the Opera House to the Graben and Stephansdom. Floodlight in the evening and at night. Wonderful Xmas illumination. Good view from the SkyCafe of Steffl department store. Gambling in Casino Wien. Must see.

The pedestrian streets running from Opera House to St. Stephan's Cathedral was an ideal place for shoppers. Lots of shops, large or small, coffee shops, restaurants and nice structures or statues were found there. Really a paradise for visitors. The place was equally crowded even late at night and being a good experience to stroll down the streets while travelling... More

Actually the KARNTNERSTRASSE. This pedestrian mall runs from behind the opera house all the way to St. Stephan's Cathedral, culminating in the Stephanplatz and the Graben. It is filled with all kinds of shops, cafes, and lots of restaurants, and beautiful archetecture. Also off the Karntnerstrasse are many side streets with shops and restaurants also. It is a wide boulevard... More

The nice thing about this stretch is that it's wholly pedestrianised and so you can avoid being on a crowded pavement, as it's a touch busy even under normal circs, and just wander on down the middle of the walkway taking in anything that takes your fancy on either side of the road. Please note - it's easy to create... More

For me I love the night city walk here when the buildings lights are up which give a different feel from a historic town in the day to a colourful city in the night

Staying in Inner City

Neighbourhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
