I've been to lots of Zoo's, and this is certainly one of the best. Lots of information on each animal in multiple languages. A very large zoo with big enclosures for most animals. (Some I felt should be bigger for the animal, especially for elephants, lions, tigers, monkeys etc) But animals seemed happy and were all eating or playing when... More

It is really beautiful and big enough to spend one day in it. Kids really had fun and love it. Only price is a little high.

This is a wonderful zoo. The animals have large, beautiful, well-maintained grounds. I have been to several zoos in the states and they don't compare anywhere near to this.

Visited the zoo at the end of February with our (almost) 2 year old daughter mainly to see the Pandas as neither of us had seen Pandas before. We were lucky enough to see the baby twins on their 1st trip outside so was an extra lovely visit! The zoo itself is of a reasonable size yet all the enclosures... More

One of the oldest zoos of the world with historic ambient - but very modern presentation of several animals - as close as appropriate to the species. Its fine with small and also older children, as for scientific interested people to. You can get also a year ticket to spend for looking and relaxing in traditional coffee house or imbiss

Staying in Hietzing

Neighbourhood Profile
Hietzing
Vienna’s 13th district has always been in the shadow of Schönbrunn Palace and its gardens, but has interesting hidden gems waiting to be discovered. Allow half a day for the imposing Habsburg residence and the gardens with Gloriette belvedere. Reserve the other half to discover the secret charms of this posh residential neighbourhood. Sneak out of the gardens at Hietzinger Tor (Hietzing Gate) and head down Hietzinger Hauptstrasse for Kaiserpavillon (Emperor’s pavilion), an Art Nouveau gem right on top of U4’s metro railtracks. At local institutions Café Dommayer and restaurant Plachutta you can mingle with residents, their families and friends. Dommayer has risen to fame since waltz king Johann Strauss and his orchestra performed there regularly. If you want to go beyond private villa gazing visit Klimtvilla and Hermesvilla. Art Nouveau genius Gustav Klimt had his last studio in a now beautifully renovated villa, which is open during spring and summer. Hermesvilla at Lainzer Tiergarten animal enclosure and nature park is a must for all romantics and fans of Empress Sissi.
