Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We visited the Schwarzsee with our dog to swim there. The only positive thing: free parking. Dogs are not welcome at the lake. According to what we read on the internet, there are lots of benches on the circular path. Sure, there are about 8 of them, but within 50m. There are no rest stops along the rest of the circular path. On the circular path, you are asked several times to remove the dogs' waste. There are no poop bags or garbage cans on the circular path, however. Swimming outside of the pool is not nice. The lake is boggy and knee-deep from the 1st centimeter from the shore. Sorry. But there are plenty of nicer lakes in the area. Never again!

There is not much to do here in Scharzsee in winter! This lake is not intertwined well with walkways!

We stayed at the Jägerwirt Hotel which is on the other side of Kitzbühel-yet this lake was extremely accessible from our hotel. We went on various runs on the grounds around the lake which was well-formed and good for people of all abilities. Similarly, swimming in the lake is highly enjoyable and is rather cheap if you use the area near the Alpen Hotel. We went on a day which was 18°C yet the water was 20°C-making it a worthwhile and good experience all over the lake. A small train station is located in the near proximity which heads towards Wörgl in one direction (good for train changes to Innsbruck, Salzburg, Linz and Vienna) and Saalfelden in the other which may be useful.

There are beautiful lakes all over Austria and each one has it's own magic and beauty. The Schwarzsee or Black Lake, in Kitzbühel is no exception. During warm spring and summer months, it's a perfect place to sunbathe, people watch and stop at one of the waterside restaurants for a bite or a drink or beer. During the cold, snowy winter months it's an idyllic place to ice skate, and if the day is sunny, you can still get a drink or hot chocolate. Most enjoyable!

A nice walk from Kitzbuhel and very easy to do. The walk around the lake is very easy and peaceful, that we went there twice. The restaurant/café is in a very sunny spot and very well used. The food was very good and good for snacks at lunch time. The staff very friendly for walkers and dog walkers alike.

We visited twice during our recent stay near Kitzbuhel. The lake is signposted from Kitzbuhel and there is a free car park and a station halt for rail travellers. Also buses stop here. The lake is popular with locals at weekends and the car park can get full. There are free toilets near the boat hire desk.
The walk round the lake takes about 45 minutes and is interesting with pretty views, an art exhibition, nature reserve and paths in the woods. There are 2 'official' swimming areas - the strandbad and a place reserved for guests of the Alpenhotel, but we saw many people using the public steps or just bathing from the side of the lake - completely free of charge.
In parts the footpath is steep. It also wanders away from the lakeside through the woods, meaning that the lake is not completely accessible. There is a fitness course in the woods which looked interesting. We didn't see much wildlife on our 2 visits but it was a pleasant spot. For those who know the Davosersee in Switzerland, the Schwarzsee is smaller, its shore is less accessible, it has is less wildlife and the landscape is not quite as varied, but even so its worth a visit. The strandbad looked good too.

What fun this lake is.. Located in between Kircberg and Kitzbuhel, head down with friends or family for a grew day out. Parking is plentiful. Entry for an adult is 4 euro's. Theres great facilities such as, changing rooms, restaurant, bar, and waterspouts rental. Head on in a find a spot to lay your towel, jump into the warm lake either off 1 of three diving boards or down a slide. Great place to relax and soak in the the beautiful views of the surrounding alps

Thought we'd try the lake for swimming but were nervous. Lake water was clean and relatively warm. There were slides and diving boards which were great fun
Water left us feeling refreshed and akin and hair so soft.
Also had a spin round the lake in an electric boat which was very relaxing.

Perfect on a hot day. Either walk around the lake, sunbathe, swim or hire a boat. Good restaurant there too for a meal or drink.

Hi, I wondered if there is an opening season for the slides, boats etc. I am looking to book family holiday during spring bank holiday week (end of May/beginning of June) and wondered if everything is open. Any other good activities for kids?

Hallo,

Hi,
Is there a preferred area of the lake Schwarzee to have a swim and a picnic with young kids?
Any help is aprreciated
Written 29 May 2017
At the entrance to the lake there is access to the lake plus areas where you can have a picnic, however, all around the lake has spots you can picnic and access the lake quite easily. Beautiful place, enjoy!

How easy is the walk from the centre of Kitzbuhel . I am quite elderly and slow but can walk a good distance. Is the walk mainly flat or uphill ?
Written 7 August 2016
Actually, from the town center, it is relatively flat, maybe a shallow incline, but not seriously "uphill". Kitzbühel also has wonderful sidewalks and paths that make any walk easy. It is 1.6 miles or 2.7km from the Museum Kitzbuhel, which is in the center of town. Generally speaking, about 1/2 hour +...and on a pretty day, it is a BEAUTIFUL walk. There are also several benches along the way.

Hi,
Just wondered if you can hire row boats on the lake or is it kayaks?
Thanks

Hello, I can't honestly remember, when we walked round it was just before open season, there were some watercraft but I am afraid I can't be specific. I do remember seeing lots of really big fish! Have a great time!
Written 21 June 2015
Hi there, Is open water swimming allowed and is there kayaks to hire near by?
Written 26 February 2015
yes for both.
We were unlucky when we went as the weather was cold and wet (although it was mid august). But some people were bathing all the same
