Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

If you are looking to hike in Kitzbuhel this is one of the must do's. Once you get to the top there are so many paths and treks available across the valleys. The scenery is superb and there are paths for all abilities. There are guided walks from Kitzbuhel which I highly recommend.

The Alpenhaus is a popular dining spot about two-thirds of the way up the 6548 ft. elev. Kitzbuhler Horn. It is readily accessible from the train station just by walking down Bahnhofplatz and turning to the left, uphill, on Hornweg, which also connects easily to streets in the city center. You'll need tickets for two cable cars, Hornbahn 1 and Hornbahn 2. When you exit the second cable car, you'll be right at the Alpenhaus.

An up-and-down ticket is 24.50 Euros, but check for special deals. On the day we were there, hikers 60 years and old got a big discount. Price is lower for children, too.

The restaurant has a big terrace with good views of the surrounding mountains, which you can identify from the panoramic displays lining the railing and showing the elevations of the major peaks in view.

If you want to hike further, it's a fairly steep 30-minute walk on a switchback trail to get to the summit of the Horn. Views get more stunning every step of the way, and once you're at the summit, you'll have a 360 degree view of (at least in mid-May) snow-covered peaks.

There are attractions along the way, including wild flower gardens and, right near the Alpenhaus, an adventure playground for kids that features a rock climbing wall and a couple of fun-looking slides for the younger set.

Whether you stop on the way up or the way down from the summit, or just hang out on the terrace, the local Kaiser beer on tap at the Alpenhaus is very refreshing, and there's a good variety of snacks. We opted for the pretzels. We did not find the cafeteria-style food very appetizing, so passed on it, but plenty of people were waiting in line for lunch. It is the only game in town, you might say.

Besides, if you decide walk all or part way to the summit, you'll likely work up an appetite, so a hot meal on the way back may be just the thing.

This is a beautiful part of Austria, easy to get to by train from Innsbruck. The views from the Alpenhaus or higher above if you choose to go to the top of the Horn, are beautiful and dramatic. The air is crisp, clean and invigorating. The sights bring to mind the words of the old song from a movie of the same name: "On a clear day, you can see forever."

During our summer vacation to Austria, we took a trip to the Alpenhaus Restaurant for lunch followed by a hike to the peak of the Kitzbüheler Horn (1,996m). The restaurant staff were friendly and helpful and food was served promptly to our table on the terrace. We had driven to the restaurant to park there whilst we hiked with our dogs to the peak. There is a small mountain access road charge but this can be credited if you use the restaurant. The view from the terrace are excellent. On the mountain there is also the Alpine flower garden (Alpenblumengarten) and Hornköpflsee (Mountain Lake) both worth a look.

There is not a time when the view from the Alpenhaus on top of the Horn is not fantastic! In summer and spring the valley and surrounding mountains as lushly green and if it is hot in town, it is always cooler at the Alpenhaus. During summer there are people sitting around reading, visiting and drinking and getting a tan. In fall, the beautiful colors of the changing foliage is spectacular. During the cold, snowy winter, the Alpenhaus is a great place to start your ski day and also throughout the day to eat, drink and rest. In winter, the hot chocolate (with Ruhm) or Gluhwein or Jagertee warm the soul. There are many walking and hiking trails that begin at the Alpenhaus and go down all sides of the mountain. This is a perfect place year round and if visiting or living in the greater KitzbĂĽhel area, it is wonderful!

We took the tram to the top of the mountain. We took a smaller lift then a larger one to get to the top. The view, air and clearness was stunning. We then took a casual walk down to the restaurant and had a great meal while looking over the view. While we walked around the trail, there were cows everywhere. The sounds of their bells was awesome!

Easy ascent (by car) makes this a really nice mountain destination and you really can get a 360 degree view of the mountains. Cafe on top a bit tacky which lets it down and the new Karsweg walk was poorly signed and a very rough track (assuming we were even on the right one).

Overall tho' the natural attractions win out making it a 4/5 rather than 3/5.
