Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Walking along the Streif is like living a true legend. The Starthaus is open to the visitors and you can look outside the starting door down to the breathtaking Startschuss. After, you reach the incredible Mausefalle and the Steilhang. In every key point of the races there are big LCD screens which helps you to understand the Streif and where the athletes are passing by. You must stop at the world famous Seidlalm to drink and eat very good tirolean dishes. In every key points there are also special summer edition gates. The Streif is unbelievable even in Summer. In Winter it can be an open eyes nightmare because is very icy and is almost impossible to make a turn with your skis or even just staying in an erected position. The guys which are able to skiing down the Streif during the Hahnenkamm Rennen are true heroes. They have no fear for anything. Even in the summer is necessary to have the legs well fitted to make the descent. Going down along the Streif is like going down along a living legend. You can breath the myth in the air. From the beautiful Hausberg you can have a lovely panorama of Kitz, the Horn, the Schwarzsee, Reith bei Kitz and the Wilder Kaiser mountains. The path is well marked and well kept. The Streif walkway is an absolute must, another top attraction of the Kitz area, if not absolutely the best. I made it dozens of times. The Streif is simply incredible. Nothing in the World is like the Streif and nothing in the World is like Kitz, the World's most beautiful place.

Upon arriving at the Hahnenkammbahn top station head straight to start-house (can’t be missed) then down (via the Hocheckhutte restaurant) you can walk to the Streif races viewing platform and then down to the 'Mausefalle' (the steepest part of the course with a maximum grade of 85%). Having stood here during the downhill race practice session it was very interesting to see the course in the summer. The poles for the side course netting helps to show where the course goes, plus there are plenty of information boards and TV displays.

To do the whole walk takes between 90 and 150 minutes – I only managed a small part of it (due to having young children with me) but would love to complete the whole walk one-day.

I really enjoyed seeing the start gate (and associated museum) and the part of the Streif walk that I did manage to do.

You really get a better idea of how crazy those downhillers are when you walk this run. They get down in two minutes. It took us almost two hours. It is a well maintained trail that is well marked. I’d recommend good sturdy shoes that grip well. Parts are steep and there is loose gravel. Also be in descent shape. Walking downhill that far can be tiring. We loved it

You must know, that in Kitzbühel the priorities are skiing, skiing and skiing. Sommer guests are not really welcome. They are tolerated, not more.
This finds its expression in poor description of hiking tours, in poor preparation of paths and in the fact, that summer guests are charged for lifting facilities. In other Austrian regions there are Summer cards for free available. With this cards the hotel guests can go up and down once a day. In Schladming with the summer card you can go even up and down the Dachstein for free once a week.
It is difficult to find adequate tour descriptions with hight profile, km and requested time.
Best map available is “Wanderparadies Kirchberg Aschau” in a adequate scale (for free) but with poorly marked hight curves. Not bad is “Wanderkarte Region Brixental – Hohe Salve” (4 Euro), scale too small but hight curves good visible. Please keep in mind that a good map is a safety feature, as marking of the paths is poor.

After the Lauberhorn trail in Wengen, I finally succeeded in making also this trail. If you see the race on television, you can connect the images you see to the reality and understand how crazy those guys are. Mousefalle, Steilhang and Hausbergkante are the most spectacular points of the slope. Four mega screens are showing films from the early years to today. In my opinion an amazing trail !

We walked from the top down to Kitzbuhel. Whilst it's a longish hike, I found it easy - there are no cliff edge drop offs and the paths are not super steep or narrow. It's mostly gravel paths, with a few sections on meadows. The small detour to the 2 lakes is very much worth it. The route down is very clearly marked.

I really dislike heights and didn't struggle at all with this hike. I'd recommend sturdy footwear.

Lunch at Seidlam cafe was a perfect rest stop (do stop to see the horses, goats, rabbits and sheep).

The way is well made with information about the famous "Streiff" race up the whole way. Mostly you can walk up (or down if you prefer) on the ski piste which gives you nice impression what it would mean to ski down.

This tour down the Streif is absolutely amazing. Respect for the athletes 👍🏻
We walked down the route in hot weather. Perfectly signposted and lots of information on the information boards.
You can also walk up the Streif.
