We travelled Germany and Austria visiting Christmas markets along the way. While not Nurenberg, it is still a wonderful market in a beautifully decorated setting...and Old Town, with its painted facades and architecture, is gorgeous.

Beautiful and authentic city. We took lovely walkings inside the city. Advent is very nice here, but it's a good travel target in every season.

Lots of streets and alleys with stores, restaurants, bars, museums and lots to do. Stay at least 2 nights here to get the experience in to maximum potential. Here on 12.4, 12.5, 2016 and the 9 Christmas Markets are all jammed with people. the Doctor hit me with a helpful vote

Many trains easily accessible from both town centers. This is a charming town, beautiful historic Cathedral, and easy walk up to the castle with great views of the town. If you only have half a day, this is a worthwhile excursion.

Lovely place for a walk around and some sightseeing. Few museums, Christmas Museum is a definite must especially when visiting christmas market. Lovely cathedral and cathedral museum also worth visiting. Christmas market is quite ok, Germans ones are much bigger and more festive but its still a lovely one just bit smaller.

Old town is lovely and intuitive to maneuver, but the market stalls are not very special. While there are some crafters, a majority of the wares are imported. I was disappointed to discover my new hat was made in China. I guess I'm spoiled by the other quaint markets in the small villages I've explored this year

We spent several hours in the Old Town of historic Salzburg; when in the area, it is not to be missed. We took a train from Munich to Salzburg in the morning and returned later in the afternoon. During the time we spent in Salzburg we were able to visit a number of the beautiful churches, experience the Christmas Market,... More

Seeing the locations of many of the shots in Sound of Music was very special. This is such a unique area of architecture. This is the venue for a variety of events during the summer months.

Went to their Christmas Market for the first time and was blown away by how great this market was. Not only was it large, but the people were friendly and the goodies were extensive. I highly recommend going to this market if you are near Salzburg during the Christmas season, you will not regret it.

I simply felt in love with the old city of Salzburg. Its a therapy for the eyes and the soul. You also always hear a very nice music from somewhere, making a nice atmosphere which makes it even more perfect.
