The Festung Hohensalzburg was one of the stops during my family’s visit to Salzburg. We used the Hop on Hop off bus to get around the city. The fortress sits on top of the Festungburg, a small hill in Salzburg. At 30,000 square feet, it...More

Fantastic views of the city and so much history to this building. Don't worry if you have trouble walking as there is a cable car that takes you to the top in minutes.

As a family of four, including two teenage girls, with reasonable fitness we found the walk up and, in particular, down fine and worth it. The 360 degree views across the city and its surrounds were excellent. There is lots to see and do and...More

Good views. Interesting. A bit of building wok at moment. Use funicular railway unless fit. Less staterooms than I remember on last visit but some works ongoing

Went up on the train, only a few minutes. The day was clear and sunny so the views over the city and surrounding areas was spectacular! There was a really good restaurant with excellent lunch time menu and superb views from all tables. We loved...More

I had nearly dismissed going to see this attraction given you can catch glimpses of the mountains and the beauty of the city everywhere. I walked up regardless and decided to go inside and was blown away by the size and breathtaking view. I have...More

I've seen many castles and fortresses, but this one is quite special. Proximity to the old city is also great so that everything is walkable

The top has a cafe with a bar and a full-service restaurant, along with great views in both main directions. The Old Town views, including the river, are more impressive. Then of course there is the fort that you can walk around. You can take...More

Entering the castle is not free. You buy a general ticket to go up. Walking around the grounds and touring part of the castle is included. There is an extra fee for the "complete" tour of the inside the castle. It's well... More

I'm not sure, there weren't any long lines to get up the funicular to the fortress even though it was a holiday weekend and a festival was going on in the streets below the fortress. But my experience all around the area is... More
