This beautiful street was once the historic centre of the town and also the marketplace. It dates back to 1252 and it’s absolutely beautiful.
It is dominated by the Trinity column which is also impressive dating back to 1681 and is the home now of many great shops, bars and restaurants.
There is even a small Childs playground on it which is a lovely touch.

The Alter Platz, lined with buildings in heritage Austrian architecture, with on the ground floor restaurants, cafés and shops, is the main pedestrian area of Klagenfurt center. Sitting at a table of a café, you can watch all-day Klagenfurt life pass by. One of the remarkable buildings at the Alter Platz is the "Altes Rathaus". The former heritage city hall of Klagenfurt.

The widest/largest pedestrian street in town with numerous shops and cafes..things shut down pretty early though..

This beautiful city we visited the last day of the year 2018. Very beautifully decorated, shops and streets. Food typical of this part of Austria. Various types of sausages with cabbage or with beet. Maybe we need a bit of snow to keep the atmosphere idyllic. All stores give big discounts on winter goods, and announced that even bigger discounts will be in January.

You will be surprised, this place reminds one of Italy and no wonder, the architecture is similar and the clorox of the houses certainly attest to this influence. But make no mistake, you are in Klagenfurt, Austria. There are some really nice bars, cafes and restaurants here. Most all of them have outdoor seating, weather permitting. There are some elegant stores here as well, perhaps a bit pricey but quality is foremost and important to many shoppers.

Klagenfurt's city center is characterized by Mediterranean buildings. The 800-year-old old town is absolutely worth seeing and attracts many visitors with its Renaissance buildings and picturesque courtyards. There is a lot to discover around the Old Square: for example, the bright yellow town hall from the 17th century or the buildings from the Baroque period.

A sixteenth-century palace that stands in the Old Square of Klagenfurt. The most significant thing is the elegant and harmonious loggia courtyard. On the yellow facade you can see some frescoes and a clock.
