Teenager always know everything. It is very hard to tell them something new... They will have to draw their own conclusions. For me, it was great! I always knew that the Esterházys were very open and progressive, but when you see how much they cared for their staff you get another feeling. Many things they did back then would be welcome even today. Extraordinary! Having the financial means is the prerequisite, but when you know how things were managed elsewhere, you can not have but awe! The guide was excellent, thank you! I can only recommend this place for everyone with an eye for culture and history.

As a daytrip from Vienna , I would thoroughly recommend a visit to Eisenstadt to see the Esterhazy Palace. Full of history, this wonderfully maintained Palace was visually stunning and having a guided tour gave us a wonderful overview of Joseph Hadyn’s influence as Music director. This influence carried over from the Palace throughout the town of Eisenstadt, particularly in the Local church, named in his honour. Eisenstadt was easily accessed from Vienna by train.

Haydn worked for 30 years at Esterhazy Palace, composing and conducting. It was an excellent experience to visit where he worked, particularly Haydn Hall, and the museum in the palace. We took the self-guided Haydn tour, much interesting historical information about Haydn and the Esterhazy family. We took the train from Vienna, about 1.25 hours, then a taxi to the palace. Very worthwhile day trip!

I was in Eisenstadt for a classical music festival and had a wonderful time listening to musicians from all over the world. Haydn worked there! No AC, but we survived.

Esterhazy Palace is a highly recommended day trip. We allowed a full day to tour the old village, palace and palace gardens, opting for a day train ticket from Vienna @34.7 euros (per couple) - which covers all REX trains for 24hrs. The trip to Einstadt is around an hour and a quarter from Vienna HBF on the REX, which scoots along very quickly through the wind turbine littered countryside, the palace is a 15 minute walk up the hill from Einstadt station. We chose a combination ticket (20 Euros) to view the palace, which included a very informative tour, and viewing of the various exhibitions - one covering the tragic history of Melinda Esterhazy. The old village is also well worth the visit, with many little cafes serving the local delicacies - ie chocolate layered cake, cake, and more cake, then coffee. Walk it off with a pleasant loop through the palace park.
