Visited as part if jeep safari trip. Park in the road outside as you go in, if you are dressed inappropriately, you will be asked to wear a purple robe. Not the height if fashion but a must do. An courtyard leads to the main...More

On this trip to Cyprus I preferred more modest monastery, although this is a must see and very impressive. Allow about 3 hours to visit. Once visited, continue driving up the mountain for about 10 minutes to Throni. This site is the memorial to Archbishop...More

It was a long drive & our sat nav took us on a merry detour off a cliff so by the time we arrived we were exhausted. We all made sure to cover our shoulders & not wear shorts. My husband did but he had...More

Whether you’re religious or not, the ornate and well kept nature of this place is impressive. It’s a little big trek to get here but glad we did it (again). We’d been here 14 years ago and were every bit as impressed as the first...More

I had been really looking forward to visiting Kykkos. As I got near I found a number of coaches parked on the road and a fairly large (and full) purpose built car park with various stalls selling all sorts of stuff around the edge. Even...More

What a place, full of history set in the mountains and having great views. Whatever your religious views this is a must see visit. The fresco's and Greek orthodox artefacts are incredible.

Located in the mountainous region of Marathasa Valley, the Monastery of Kykkos is the wealthiest and most lavish on the island, and stands on a mountain peak, at an altitude of 1.318 metres. Dedicated to Panagia (the Virgin Mary), the monastery possesses one of three...More

But if you are not into Greek Orthodox religion and art , of course not. The Monastery is incredibly rich , the relatively recent mosaics contain real gold . The place has something pompous , just like the Vatican, hence my mixed feelings. The setting...More

The mosaics and frescoes are exquisite. Give yourself enough time to relax and take it all in. You will not see more beautiful art anywhere. The colors, the artistic skill and visions, sublime. Divine.

As long as you stick to the main roads, you should be fine. Roads are always wide enough for two cars to pass and there are low walls or crash barriers at the sides. I am one of those people who, much to my husband's... More
