- Rick WSevenoaks, United Kingdom2,332 contributionsPaphos archaeological site. Beautiful mosaicsI suggest you visit this remarkable archaeological site early in the morning. It opens at 0830. The site is quiet then and it will give you a chance to look properly at the astonishing and beautiful Roman mosaics. The place must have been the Roman equivalent of Beverly Hills! With huge villas providing gorgeous views of the coastline and built around magnificent rooms with frescoes. There are three villas to see, two still exposed to the sunshine and one, the House of Dionysius which is covered for protection. These are without doubt the best in the group of mosaics and certainly the best you will see in the eastern Mediterranean. Give yourself time to enjoy them, and don't worry about not being able to understand the ancient Greek myths upon which they are based! There are other things to see at the site as well, an odeon, Roman roadways, and even an incongruous modern lighthouse.Visited September 2023Travelled soloWritten 20 September 2023
- AprilForbesSalisbury, United Kingdom1,369 contributionsWonderful MosaicsThe house is a wonderful piece of history. Mosaics are amazing and alot within the house are still so clear. Outside is fascinating too, But remember suncream as still hot in November. If you have mobility issues, this will be a bit difficult in places. If you like history, this is well worth a visitVisited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten 25 November 2023
- stalbansvisitorUnited Kingdom35 contributionsDefinitely go hereAwesome. A must-see visit, together with other mosaics and ruins at the stunning open air site. At less than 5 euros a ticket, it’s exceptionally good value and right by the restaurants and cafes of the old harbour. Highly recommend. Even the water in the vending machines is cheap, and chilled!Visited January 2024Travelled soloWritten 6 January 2024
- kenny10564Newcastle-under-Lyme, United Kingdom484 contributionsFull day in paphos. What amazing mosaics and still in fantastic condition. Just to see the mosaics in all their glory are well worth the entrance fee. This is the 3rd time seeing this wonderful site. If this is your thing then make a beeline and see history.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 March 2024
- Tommy C83 contributionsBetter every time we visitI have been visiting this site since the nineteen eighties and never fail to be amazed by the astonishing mosaics. In the two years since I was here last so much more has been uncovered and the site is so interesting. A viewing room and gift shop, very reasonably priced, is just a short walk from the entrance and a welcome place to take shade from the sun. You can see how life has changed over the years on the island and learn more about the people who contributed to the history. Another house is being excavated and there are a couple of mosaic floors to see. Free entry for the elderly and a bus station just beyond the exit.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 June 2024

Anyone interested in Roman remains must go and see this which is amazing.
The grounds are great and then you go into the area which was the villa which is completely amazing, the amount of work that has gone into the mosaics is incredible. There is also a visitors centre which plays really interesting film explaining how they managed to lift and clean the tiles when they were found, well worth a visit and a great price too.

This is a wonderful place to experience history of a country.
The layout is over a large span of space and there is a lot to see.
The original mosaics are great to look at and are better quality then you would expect and gives you a good representation of being in that time.
My children enjoyed it too and learning new things and asking questions, which is educational for them.
The best parts were the full mosaics and the little amphitheatre.
I would only recommend that your careful when you go as we went early morning while it wasn’t at peak heat but was still quite hot, very desert like and not many places to shelter from it. Early evening might be better.
Take plenty of water although there are a few drinks machines around but definitely worth a visit.

On our Holland America Tour, we toured the House of Dionysos, home of the Dionysos Mosaics. It is the most important area in the Neo Pafos Archaeological Site. We saw these breathtaking mosaics unearthed during the excavation of a Roman nobleman's villa from the third century AD. An extensive complex of buildings fitted with beautiful mosaic floors shows Roman legends and characters, but mostly represent scenes from Greek mythology. These are considered to be the finest mosaics in the Mediterranean, and perhaps in the world. These important mosaics are the only area that is protected by a special building.

Our family found this exhibition to be the highlight of the Paphos archeological park. It has numerous rooms with beautiful mosaic floors depicting various scenes.
Access is granted as part of the archeological park entrance fees. Children enter for free. Parking is available for free close to the entrance of the park.

This was one of the best attractions in the area and definitely worth the trip. It is part of the wider Paphos archaeological park. The mosaics were the most well preserved we saw on our entire Cyprus travels and we went to quite a few places.
I would recommend getting the free Pafos UNESCO Park app. It has a map of the site but also a selection of audio guides for each one and this described what was going on in each mosaic, which really increased our enjoyment of the site. However, the app is a bit glitchy, so you will need to keep interacting with the screen or the audio cuts out!

This is part of the archeological site.
The site is named after the Greek god of wine, Dionysos, who is depicted throughout the amazing flooring.
If you download the app it will give you an excellent audio guide (the details are at the entrance to the site).
It is really quite something to see all the mosaics. The detail is incredible and the different animals and scenes are really fascinating.

We were a group of travellers from Canada, and visited this UNESCO World heritage site while in Cyprus. This is an active archeological dig site-1200 square meters with 556 sq m of mosaics. Truly magnificent I can’t imagine how they lived!
You can truly enjoy the beautiful mosaics, although the rest of the site is quite unimpressive. Worth a visit if you are in the vicinity!

What a fantastic place to visit, absolutely mind blowing.
Things to note, I read reviews before we went and this is information I think will help
The site is massive, allow 2-3 hours to take it all in.
It's HOT lots of walking, uneven in places but mostly fine.
There are toilets and vending machines dotted around.
You can find shade if needed
It was only €4.50 to go in which I feel is really reasonable.
You cab log on to free WiFi and there is a download guide which is fantastic, loads of information, a map, audio, everything you could need.
Altogether a fantastic place to visit

Located inside the archeological park is the house of Dionysus.
The mosaics are so well preserved that the villa is housed inside a building. All the mosaics are in situ with the exception of one and there are info boards describing the scenes.
