    Old town stunning
Going to paphos for 10+ years I can remember when the old town was the fruit market! Now it’s stunning streets of local bars and restaurants where you will find local Cypriots enjoying Sundays with their whole families , w real authentic feel. Streets are picturesque. Some really lovely restaurants can’t wait to explore some more next year!

Unfortunately visited on a wed afternoon so half day closing for shops. Iced coffee revived us after a long walk and was like finding an oasis in the middle of the desert! Once revived, lovely streets to explore. Lots of eateries, coffee shops, tavernas and an amazing sunset whilst sipping a cocktail. Then enjoyed some cypriot BBQ food and people watching from various different locations in the town. Definitely.worth a visit

    Old Town Pathos
Nice walk to the old town. Some lovely coffee and juice shops with beautiful views of the sea. Also a market in a beautiful setting. We had a coffee and a juice at Sykaminia some humus olives and bread which was fresh reasonably price and delicious

Not sure where everyone else went
We had a fab time in the Old Town and are not sure what the negative comments are about. Yes, there are lots of samey tourist shops but there are also loads of independent art galleries, cafes and restaurants. Paphos is a tourist resort, so you need to manage your expectations, but this is great for a few hours’ break from the pool.

Not as expected, but found a lovely Cafe for lunch
This was not what I expected. The market is a number of stools set up for tourists that are all very similar. Not the market experience I was expecting. There is nice pedestrianised area, but many of the shops / bars had closed down meaning there are a lot of empty units diminishing the experience of an ‘old town’ that I was looking for. Great view from the bus station over the sea and harbour. I would thoroughly recommend Sykaminia Cafe for lunch - which is opposite Cafe Nero near the bus station. Great atmosphere and well priced fresh food. Nice views towards the ocean, The town is worth a visit, but lower your expectations.

Lovely little town worth a visit but was very quiet.
The Old Town of Paphos has clearly had some money spent on it in terms of modernization. We only visited on a Monday evening, and it was extremely quiet. However, based on the few hours we were there, we enjoyed exploring with the kids and felt extremely safe. Everywhere was clean, and I would say it's worth a trip to check it off the list.

    A different side of Paphos
I think we went at an off hour so it was very quiet. There are many souvenir shops and cafes. It easily accessible with the 610 bus from the harbor. Given that it’s on a mountain it affords great views of the Paphos coastline and lighthouse. We liked having another perspective of the city.

i did write a review few days back, my legs could not help but come back. Today’s meal was even better. The Red mullet and fish were fried to such perfection that I ate the lot, head tail and all. Never tasted better calamari, better ceviche, never had such impeccable service. Believe me not being paid for this review and would come back daily without hesitation.
The price not cheap nor expensive and no one should complain in view of the quality and perfection of the cooking
Yum yum

The old town of Paphos sits slightly up on the hillside from the shoreline. It is quite compact and has some interesting buildings. There is a great café Nero which has an amazing view across down to Paphos harbour. The best way to view the old town is on foot or by bike and the main attractions I guess all the meals and graffiti artist drawings.

We stopped here briefly (for an hour) off the sightseeing bus to check out the ‘Old Town’. Yes I’ll agree there’s no cobbled streets or donkeys and it probably doesn’t have the same charm as your Spanish old towns but we quite liked it. There’s a lot of shops selling the same old overpriced touristy tat (but it’s cheaper than at the harbour side and the shop keepers are much friendlier!). And if you keep wandering around you will find some hidden gems where there are a few selling handmade things. (Look for the art shop which supports lots of local artists it’s particularly good!) Generally though we thought It had a nice feel to it with quite a few little tavernas and restaurants mixed in amongst the shops. Plenty of variety to keep my ‘easily bored’ teens shopping for a bit!

We travelled here in the morning and it was quiet until about 10am compared to when we were leaving. Easy access via bus 610. Parts of the town are being refurbished so a lot of builders around when we were there! There are beautiful tavernas, little cafes as well as the market itself. There are also historic buildings dotted about as well as street art. Definitely worth a visit to see a glimpse of old Cyprus. The market itself is what you’d imagine: hand bags, Cypriot material, souvenirs, leather etc! We got some bargains!

Walked into the old town from our hotel on the king’s road, about 30 minutes.
Now the old town is lovely but you can easily miss the hidden gems of small streets shops, cafe and the tourist market.
Head for the market behind cafe Nero and you will find streets to explore.
If you miss it you’ll end up in the square with all the official building and a few rubbish shops.
It’s well worth a trip but you’ll only need a couple of hours to see everything.

Thursday 13th October and we took a stroll around the Old Town of Paphos.

There were some interesting parts but sadly there is not much character, rather soulless. A lot of it is a building site with old buildings being knocked down and replaced with new ones. It appeared that nothing seems to be restored, demolition and rebuild seems to be the preferred option.

Some of the old buildings still remaining were in a state of disrepair and crumbling, no doubt they will be demolished and rebuilt. There were some well maintained old buildings to see, not too many.

There was lots of graffiti around which really did add to the sense of depression and decline.

We did visit the Municipal Market (reviewed separately) which was a waste of time. The narrow streets around the market were lined with new build modern shops selling mostly souvenirs.

Regrettably, a visit on a hot day to the old town proved a disappointment. Quite a few of the shops were closed, and those that were open were void of tourists. The Covid pandemic wreaked havoc on the island's tourist industry and had a devastating effect on the old town. It was really sad to walk the empty streets, and for a tourist, practically nothing to see, save maybe the nice architectural renovation of the old khan ( a former rest place for travelers and their horses) and surrounding buildings.
cost for a taxi from Poseidonos Avenue to/from the Old Town Euro 8 for each direction, taking less than ten minutes.

We did read the reviews before we went but didn't like to be put off, please take notice of the reviews! Lots of shops were shut, or boarded up, some derelict. Needs some heavy investment to get it up to standard which is a real shame because it could be lovely. There were some lovely people in the little market, in particular a little shop selling handmade jewelry. There was a fantastic bright pink cafe called Stephanie Rose which did fantastic ice-cream and milkshakes and cakes, where we were waited on by a really lovely lady. We did go at around 5:30pm so many other shops were shut but to be honest it wouldn't have saved the trip (we had to take 2 buses to get there!) Not many old buildings to admire and just didn't have much life about it. I recommend spending your precious holiday time elsewhere.

610 bus from Harbour to Old Town.
It feels more modern than old which is a bit of a shame, lots of building work happening and will be bright and colourful once completed.
Many bars, cafes and restaurants to choose from.
We enjoyed looking through the little lanes and we stumbled across a very peaceful and tranquil courtyard for a drink - Kiniras Garden.
Bought some nice gifts from some of the local shops, everything is handmade.
