Emil Noldes private home and garden is well worth a visit if you happen to be in Northern Germany close to the Danish border. A nice, relatively small museum which is centered around his personal life, rather than a large collection of paintings, those present are with a few exception not his most well known masterpieces. The real value of... More

German-Danish painter Emil Nolde is excellently presented at his Nolde Stiftung Seebüll. His work, his personal history is at display. Don't miss the excellent film on his life and his historical context. Art, garden, surroundings as such are execellently joined. And the restaurant serves fine dishes, fine coffee at affordable prices.

Visiting Emil Nolde's place and garden was on my list for long years, which finally came true. Visiting the amazing garden made me much better understand the vivid colours and powerful lines of the painter. The house and garden designed by Nolde is truly impressive. I wish there were much more paintings on display - not sure what the huge... More

The Nolde Stiftung had a few renovations over the years. Of course, it's all about the expressionist painter Emil Nolde. It is really worth a trip, if you are at the German/Danish border. You begin at the Forum with his Biography and a 45 Min film, which is very good. Then you go to the Museum and look at his... More

This place is in the middle of nowhere but there are plenty of brown signs to follow, so we got there no problem. The site is beautiful, with ample parking and a wonderful, modern entrance building, completed in 2009. This houses the ticket desk, shop, cafe, work rooms and cinema. We watched the one hour film, thankfully with English subtitles... More

We wound our way past fields of potatoes and cows to Seebȕll, a tiny community just barely in Germany. Our destination was not Seebȕll proper but rather the rural home and workshop where late German Expressionist painter Émile Nolde and his wife, Ada, lived seasonally and then spent their final years after 1941, when the Nazis declared his early work... This is Emil Noldes home and turned into a museum of his art and life. Lovely garden and new greeting center with a shop with one of a kind things from Noldes art. The garden is very nice and you can buy plants from the garden to take home. Noodles house is full of his art. Lots to see and... More

Nice not to big museum located in the home of the painter. Very nice visitor center with a very good and informal movie on Noldes life. This gave a lot of information on both Nolde and the world around him in years of big changes in Europe and also in the local area. The house with a selection of the... More

In spite of all our effort, it was a really long, long ride till we finally got to the museum. If you are not into paintings, you can enjoy the cafe (excellent cakes, you get some sort of discount that is included in the entrance fee cost, painfully slow service) and a great garden. Plenty of spaces to enjoy the... More

Emil Nolde seems to have followed the life path of another famous painter of expressionism, that of the Norwegian Edward Much. After achieveing fame and recognition, they chose to draw away from the world, and devote themselves entirely to painting and other art forms. Nolde had a life-long partner and adoring wife, and they created this personal Garden-of-Eden in the... More
