Visited Victoria Gate with my son, on our way back towards the centre of Valletta, after having visited the Breakwater Bridge, the Siege Bell War Memorial, and Lower Barrakka Gardens. It is a little difficult to locate for those that are not familiar with the...More

This gate is located about a 5 minute walk from the Barrakka lift and is the Gateway from the Harbour to the City. It was built by the British in 1885 to replaced the existing 300 year old gate that they considered inadequate to meet...More

We passed through this every day we went nto Valletta town, so eventually it lost it's appeal. This descent into normalness is only to be expected as there is a wealth of other oversized monumental buildings in Malta.

Victoria Gate is another stunning site in Valletta - a city which is truly photogenic! It has been tastefully and lovingly restored, and is well worth a visit.

And easily missed, as it forms part of a quite busy road. But well worth searching for. Most easily accessed from the harbour side below Barraka?

Well worth visiting when walking the city. Built in 1885 and in great condition. I do not know know if it was bombed and rebuilt after WW11. Definitely worth a visit

Being Maltese I passed through this gate so frequently. that one tends to ignore such an architectural gem. It was restored some years back, but its a pity that the steel Victorian bridge just up the steps from the gate, was not keep up with...More
