We did not do a tour and walked in. We were able to get close the the glacier and see the lagoon. Many tours are available in the parking lot that give you a guide and gear so you can hike on the glacier if...More

This is an easy flat walk to the bottom of the glacier where you can get a nice view without spending too much time. There are tours that do hikes on the different glaciers and this is one. We did a hike on a different...More

This was an amazing experience. We were picked up in a super van in Vik and drove about 30 minutes off-road to the glacier. We then explored two incredible ice caves with a group of 11 people. Expensive (about $200/each) but well worth it.

There’s an easy walk along a gently uphill gravel path for about 10 minutes and then you can see most of the black-and-white expanse of the glacier and the glacial lagoon below it. The drive from the N1 is tarred and pretty too. Complete detour...More

Amazing amazing expedition. Our guide “hey” was just so super. We loved her. The hike was well done, we weren’t rushed and properly executed. Would highly recommend.

This was a hike to see but well worth it. You can get very close to the glacier for great pictures. We saw kayakers that got right up to the glacier and a hiking tour that went higher up but you had to have special...More

Solheimajokull is one of the the outlet glaciers of Mýrdalsjökull, the fourth largest in Iceland. We chose this one because it was easier to get to and didn't require as much time as visiting the other glaciers. It was a very informative experience to see...More

We were not originally planning on doing this, but my son suggested this as we drove to Vik. Loved it. Breathtaking view.

This glacier is receeding by several metres per annum. Its terribly sad, but you can still get up close and personal with nature by taking a guided hike on the glacier

This glacier is very easy to walk to - just a short, relatively flat walk from the parking lot, so it’s a very accessible way to get close to the edge of the glacier. An number of companies (set up in parking lot) offer guided...More

I would recommend going with out a tour or guide. You can easily google the history of the glacier along with what is going on. However if you want to hike back into the glacier and do an glacier walk deep in, and you are... More
