A short walk from the centre of town with reasonable entry charge this is well worth a visit. Covers the history and develoopment of Iceland from 950ad to present. Small enough to enjoy with enough detail to keep the interest. Coffee shop etc on site...More

This museum is nothing like the Louvre, British Museum, or El Prado, but is is quaint and educational - like Iceland. Plan for 1 to 2 hours to visit.

The National Museum of Iceland is a great place to learn about Iceland, Icelanders, saga and culture. It is very well located in the city center, has a cafè, free lockers, museum shop and a warm welcome.

If one visits only one thing in Reykjavik, it should be this museum. The museum is absolutely state of the art in museology with wonderful collections depicting the prehistory and history of Iceland. Nothing we saw in Reykjavik could equal this museum.

By no means a large museum but one with a lot to say!. Well laid out and excellently described for international visitors. Major focus is on the settlement and great emphasis on the religious link with Denmark. Visual presentations are good and a hands on...More
