Visit While in City Center

Another place to visit while in the City Center. Nice for photos and nice views across the water - fun to walk around if the weather is nice.

Unfortunately ,not many people around us could recognize the place for its historical importance. You know, the Reagan Gorbachev meetings. I've seen documentaries, pictures, etc. but the only thing it-said there was that it was some sort of haunted house.

The Hofdi House is located close to the Fosshotel Reykjavik just across from the waterfront. I dont think it is open to the public but it is an interesting historic building which wqs once the British embassy and back in the 1986 was the venue for the Reykjavik summit between Regan and Gorbachev.

A place I was keen to see and was surprised by its prominent location and simplicity, not much to see but take a photo and remind yourself of its role in the end of the cold wae

This house is situated right near the waterfront and has nothing else built near it except a couple of statues. We never went inside (not even sure if you can) but it's a place where all the tours stop for photo opportunities. With the sun on it the house looks like one you would love to own, but in poor... In 1986 Reagan and Gorbachev met here to talk about the end of the cold war. Nowadays, the house seems small given the importance of the event.

As most foreign heads of state make this a "must see" building, we thought that we should visit it. It is not open to the general public though one can knock on the door at any time. It sits on a protected piece of land not far from the centre of Reykjavik and overlooking the sea. Most people accept the... More

Taken here by our guide from Travel Department who explained the history of the house. It was a pity that we couldn't enter but there was plenty of info on boards around the building

The Northern Lights had just made an appearance as I checked into the Fosshotel Lind in Reykjavik so I went walking about trying to see them. I came upon this building that looked like a house. A few days later at the end of an excursion to the golden circle I was shown this building and told of it's importance.... More
