Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We visited this zoo during a sunny day late September, not expecting much as it seems to be advertised as a children’s zoo. The reality however was still disappointing.
There was a big chunk of land being renovated, which made it look like a building site, the seals were cute but in a very small enclosure. We saw a hawk, some deers and sheep outside, and cows and pigs in cages inside. The reptile room looked unkept. All animals seemed okay but the vibe was just sad compared to bigger zoos in the Netherlands.
We hope that the €7 entry fee will go to improving the living conditions of the animals. The amusement park that others mentioned wasn’t there but maybe we missed it. Would not visit here again.

Our kids love animals, which made the zoo an obvious place for us to visit. The zoo essentially has two parts: an actual zoo with mostly local animals (horses, sheep, goats) and a large playground with amusement park rides that require additional payment. The zoo is quite underwhelming- few animals, empty and old cages and some random construction sites in between. The amusement park is fun (even if somewhat expensive) for kids under 10; for older kids there is likely only one ride that is interesting. I would only do this if you have some extra time - there are too many better things to do in this country otherwise :)

Saddest 'zoo' I've ever been to. The seals were in an inhumanely tiny pool. All the farm animals were in tiny cramped indoor pens the whole day we were there, with nowhere to escape away from visitors. The saddest was the horses though. They were in a decent-sized outdoor pen but the substrate was gravel and there was not a sliver of food (not a single blade of grass to graze on!). I might be a little overly critical due to working in animal care in the UK, but this place was truly awful

I was staying close to the zoo and decided to pay a visit on a beautiful, cold, crisp morning. I knew the zoo was going to be small but I was disappointed with the size of most of the enclosures. Some animals were outside and even these spaces were small. The 3 horses were very lethargic which may have been the cold temperature. The indoor enclosures were really small for the size of some of the animals. Three large cattle, 2 huge pigs and sheep and goats were crammed into enclosures which, in my mind, were far too small for them - the cattle especially. Again, all the animals were extremely lethargic, not one of them was standing. They were all half asleep. I am hoping it was the cold weather which was to blame for this. Perhaps a visit in the warmer months would be better. Maybe I’ll visit again next time I’m in Reykjavik, just to check for changes.

We were excited to get so close to wild Icelandic animals- seals, reindeer, arctic fox, and mink. This was worth the price and walk to get there. Other than that, it was a nice place to walk and see some domestic animals. The rest of the zoo was not impressive and there were no informational signs or interactive exhibits. It is a little local zoo, just as it says. Keep your expectations there.

I knew this "zoo" was small, but I wasn't expecting to see lots of empty spaces where the animals were supposed to be. As soon as we walked in, we saw nothing, except some works on site. We kept walking and found the seals: so sad! Three of them crammed in the smallest pool I've ever seen! There were two pigs in a cage and everything else was empty. Two horses that looked depressed. The list goes on. Lots of goats and sheeps but they didn't look their best either. Clearly those poor animals are not taken care of, more than half the zoo was empty, we were done in less than an hour! Even though the entrance is cheap (more than £8), it's not worth it! We left sad and disappointed. If you have kids, there's an amusement park which is nice, but that's about it.

The only reason for the lower score is because the Zoo part of the establishment is underwhelming for me and my 18 year old. However, if going with younger kids I have to imagine they will be in heaven. The majority of the animals are farm animals, but you can pet them if they are close enough. And the amusement park would be super fun for a younger kid.

My wife and I really enjoyed this half-day leisurely stroll through the Zoo and Park. Lots of animals to see and get up close - including seals, reindeer, cows, pigs, sheep, chickens, arctic foxes and minks. There also also horses that allow being petted. The park next to the zoo is an area for entertaining kids. Basic food at the local restaurant. Very enjoyable, especially on a sunny day.

Terrible. Like a small UK petting zoo - hardly befitting of what is advertised at all. Three seals upon entry and unfortunately that is as good as it gets. Only two rides open but no remuneration or compensation for this. This is to be avoided, Reykjavik has so many wonderful attractions that you can simply just avoid this and go somewhere else.

Small and not many animals but we enjoyed it. Small aquarium section also. Definately go if you didn't have another opportunity to see the beautiful Iceland horses, of which there are 3 at the zoo. The Botanical gardens next door would be nice in the summer but being winter, not much to see. Good gift shop and snacks/drinks. Good for smaller children I think. Nice family park and playground area. Short taxi ride from downtown hotels.

Hi! Read on your webpage that the children can go on horsebackrides in your park? When in the day is this or on which days? :)

I read on their site that you can't bring strollers into the park. Did anyone park theirs outside the gates?
Written 25 August 2015
I was able to bring the stroller to both the zoo and family park.
