Nice place to spend a little time (and warm up!)

Built over and along side a pond that has ducks, geese and , swans that you can watch creating a peaceful, relaxing restful pause to your walk through the downtown area.

For a tourist place to be closed on Saturdays is a bit strange. It also in my opinion, spoils the otherwise very quaint view around the lake that forms the heart of Reykjavik.

This is a regular city hall, nothing to make a special trip for. EXCEPT for the Topographical Map in the main hall. This is an amazing topographical 3-D map and takes up the entire room. You can see all of Iceland and the land features and it's a great introduction to the land mass of Iceland. I would call this... More

Beautiful contemporary architecture situated on The Pond. There is usually a full scale map of Iceland - it had been removed for the Christmas celebrations.

The building is located close to a water body and is spotlessly clean. It closes at 4.30 pm in winter and has clean rest room and one can see birds and ducks around. There is no entrance fee. Only a small part is open to public.

We toured with a walking tour that took us by City Hall. We got some history and some views of the pond with birds and sculptures.

We went to the City Hall to see a 3D view of Iceland, but the display had been taken off for three or four weeks. Stunning building inside and out with the lake, birds and pools all linked to the building. Ironically a Creaft Fair was on...so we had a wander around...lots of choice and very high quality on show.Very... More

Next to the pond and set in the water we had a short break and warm up here. Interesting map, and also sculptures of politicians upstairs. At the end of the bridge / walkway make sure you get a picture of the man with the weight on his shoulders.

And then we took some photos from the suspended bridge to City Hall, and a couple of photos inside. My wife used the very clean restrooms. This building is spotless and clean like much of the city! Nice modern structure! We didn't stay long as we were uncertain whether we should be there or not?
