It's good because it's only a short drive outside of Reykjavic, and easily accessible (unlike towards the east) even when the weather is bad. Downside is there are many people waiting in their cars, some stupidly with headlights on. Still, if you're looking for photography,...More

We made a quick stop and walked the light house. The view was very nice with the snow cover mountains from the distance. I'm not sure if you can walk to the light house when high tide. there was a lot of seaweed,on the natural...More

It is in the guide books as a good place to see the Northern lights - however it was FULL of other people with the same idea of sitting in their cars trying to keep warm, and somehow that means also keeping your headlights on!...More

In December we were here but at the time it was closed. Just a short drive from the city center and it was a beautiful drive along the way.

We took the bus out and walked the last 15-20 minutes out to the lighthouse. We arrive 45 minutes before low tide. We wanted to be there for sunset, which correlated to low tide. Just lucky. The lighthouse and surrounding is a nice place to...More

I did not actually go to the lighthouse itself as this was cut off by the sea. WE did however come here twice and got fantastic views of the Northern Lights. Well worht a visit in the dark for spectacular views .

The lighthouse is supposedly a popular place to see the aurora close to Reykjavík. As a result, there is way too much traffic with way to many ignorant drivers blinding the aurora watchers with their headlights.

We were blessed to see the Northern Lights there. It is just outside of town. Parking was a little of a challenge, but once parked, you can walk to vacant land right beside and look up at the sky.

A great place to see the lights as slightly away from bright city yet still easily accessible. Also nice for a brisk walk in the day and there is a small geothermal pool you can bathe your feet in at the back of the carpark

you can walk but it takes roughly an hour. there is also a bus you can catch - for example for the way back. make sure to chevk the weather because the walkway is very exposed to wind and rain.

Sunset is between 8 and 9 pm and you will have the sun behind the lighthouse on the sea (perfect photo opportunity). Sunrise is between 5 and 6 am.

Lots of birds returning in mid to late March. There was a tide chart posted on the estuary when I was there.
