At The Cinema, Old Harbour Village No2, are shown quality Icelandic nature films; volcanoes, northern lights, flora and fauna. The Cinema is located in the loft of an old fishermen´s dwellings, where the fishermen used to mend their nets, tar their boats, salt their fish and overnight in bed bunks. Redoing the loft the atmosphere of the old life was kept as much as possible, even so that the salt smell still lingers, but the main object was to provide ideal settings for showing quality Icelandic nature and documentary films. I saw films on the Northern Lights and how to photograph them; Eyjafjallajökull; and how Iceland was formed. The emphasis is on beautiful photography rather than a heavy documentary. Once or twice computer icons appeared on the screen. However, the great thing is the atmosphere...More

My mother and I stopped in here at the last minute, and it was a great decision. It was not what I was expecting; the viewing room was a large room with comfortable couches. It really does feel cozy. The woman who showed the film...More

This is an independent cinema in an up and coming area of Reykjavik. The films are made by the people who own and run the place and are very interesting. I'm sure a visit here would be good for school groups, especially for geography or...More
