The Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis are a spectacular natural phenomenon, often seen dancing around in fantastic colours across the Icelandic Arctic sky. The Northern lights are caused by the interaction of particles from the sun with the upper atmosphere near the North Pole. That creates this wonderful light effect, known as the Aurora Borealis. The locations visited are different every tour since we go where it’s most likely to see the Northern Lights each day. This tour is dependant on weather and sightings are not guaranteed. Refreshments not included.

Don't panic if the bus isn't quite on time! Once you get going, the bus driver will entertain you with a few facts along the way--not many details about the Northern Lights and how they happen to be, but the driver will tell you what to be looking for and where to be looking in the sky. There is a... More

We booked to see the Northern Lights on the night we landed in Iceland, but looking at the fog and dense cloud it was going to be a no go. I then got a text from Reykjavik Excursions telling me that the tour was off. On day two I heard nothing, and so I emailed them, and there was no... More

We booked our northern lights tour through TripAdvisor, but it's Reykjavik Excursions that actually run the trip. A little expensive but worth it! We booked for our first night in Reykjavik so we could make the most of their return for free if you don't see the lights policy. We didn't, however, need it. We were picked up from outside... More

Reykjavik Excursions is one of many companies operating a Northern Lights tour in Iceland. You can even do a boat tour from Reykjavik harbour. Our guide (Bettina) from RE was a joy to be with. Not only was she extremely knowledgeable about the Aurora Borealis, she seemed genuinely over excited at the prospect of seeing lights once again. We booked... More

After a cancellation, we went out the next night with a whole bus load from our hotel. Even though there were around seven coaches in the area, it was so dark and there was lots of space, so It didn't feel crowded. At first, we noticed a faint white arc in the sky. This gradually became stronger and turned green... More

By sharing your experiences, you're helping travelers make better choices and plan their dream trips. TWe paid a bit extra for the Sterna tour because they advertised that they would provide assistance in capturing the Northern Lights with our cameras - and they provided Icelandic snacks and blankets. What they didn't mention was the all out commitment by our driver,... More

The reason we came to Iceland for our Mini-moon! After a cancelled trip on night one we headed out to the Reykanes peninsula with nearly every other tourist on Iceland. The lights did not disappoint! Fantastic experience.

This is a well organised tour and they do their best to provide the naturally occurring Northern Lights. In our tour they drove us to 3 different sights searching for the aurora but unfortunately without success. All through the tour they were in contact with other people and coaches trying to find the aurora but without any luck, until on... More
