The Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis are a spectacular natural phenomenon, often seen dancing around in fantastic colours across the Icelandic Arctic sky. The Northern lights are caused by the interaction of particles from the sun with the upper atmosphere near the North Pole. That creates this wonderful light effect, known as the Aurora Borealis. The locations visited are different every tour since we go where it’s most likely to see the Northern Lights each day. This tour is dependant on weather and sightings are not guaranteed. Refreshments not included.

Although completely weather dependant, the company itself is quite flexible in rearranging other attempts. On our 2nd night (after 1st night cancelled) we went on the hunt after a very snowy day with little hope of seeing anything but fair play to Greyline, they took us 45 mins away to a remote spot that had clearer skies. There were a... More

The tour was lovely, our guide gave us an interesting talk on the way to the lights and we were allowed to sit in a cafe whilst they kept a look out. Nothing was rushed and we weren't forced to stay outside longer than we wanted to. We didn't get our hopes up but the lights were the most beautiful... More

Collected at 9.00 pm from our hotel and driven to where the lights are meant to be seen best that night. Due to being a natural phenomenon no guarantee is given but they will rebook for another night until seen (or you are out of time). The best time to see them is about midnight (very cold - wrap up... Got to be honest, Reykjavik Excursions are a bit naff when it comes to organisation, however, they do seem to be able to apply a little bit of local knowledge to get results. The first night we went out we had perfect conditions but the display did not make an appearance. We then went out for a second trip later... More

Spent 4 days/3 nights in Reykjavik recently - 2 nights spent chasing the Northern Lights without success. This despite 'perfect conditions' the 2nd night (11/01/17). The point of my review is to say how fantastic Iceland is - beautiful scenery, clean crisp air, perfect light for photography, really friendly quirky people - but don't make seeing the Northern Lights as... We booked the northern lights tour with Reykjavik excursions. We read reviews on them before booking, most people saying it seemed unorganised, once we got on the coach which was assigned to us, it was clear that these people weren't wrong. My partner & I were really hopeful to see the northern lights, after being in the cold for over... More

The tour guide was lovely- very funny, informative and accommodating. The trip was worthwhile, we saw the lights on the journey and upon arrival at Thingvellir National Park. They were not as vivid as they can be and they did not last long, causing a lot of guests to complain. I personally thought that standing outside in such a spectacular... More

A camera that a vistor had saw more lights that we did. We chased the lights and to no avail, the lights that you see on you tube are not the lights that we saw on the tour but learned alot about the lights and enjoyed the thermal baths and dinner before we looked for the lights.

We did the Northern Lights tour at 9pm on our first night. The tour guide was good, gave us a 10 minute talk on the way out of town. I had downloaded an App on my phone and noticed it said we had 13% chance of seeing the lights. Our guide said they were hopeful. We didn't get to see... More

Reykjavik Excursions seems to organise most of the tours in Iceland and does so very efficiently. Picked up on time from our hotel for about one and a quarter hours drive to somewhere there was a gap in the clouds to view the Northern Lights.
