The Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis are a spectacular natural phenomenon, often seen dancing around in fantastic colours across the Icelandic Arctic sky. The Northern lights are caused by the interaction of particles from the sun with the upper atmosphere near the North Pole. That creates this wonderful light effect, known as the Aurora Borealis. The locations visited are different every tour since we go where it’s most likely to see the Northern Lights each day. This tour is dependant on weather and sightings are not guaranteed. Refreshments not included.

An organised excursion with Thomson, collected at 9.30pm travelled out of the city to quite a remote spot next to a church which had a graveyard and all the graves had crosses which were lit up with christmas lights apparently all graves have access to electricity and illuminating them at chrisstmas is an Icelandic tradition. Back to the Northern Lights,... More

This tour was done on my wife's birthday at the end of a very long day of sight seeing. The guide was very friendly and explained fully how there is no assurances that the Lights will appear....they hadn't shown up the previous 4 nights!!.....But they did show up for us and our guide was very quick to tell the coach... We know that everyone isn't lucky on these trip and its a Northern Lights Hunt, but we were lucky and it was simply amazing. From the wonderful folk tales on the bus on the way out, to the AMAZING lights (yes we saw them) to the information provided on the way back. Really good company

Not anything the tour could change and it's worth doing but seeing the Northern Lights as a whole isn't what it is cracked up to be. It's very faint in the sky (even on the best nights) not this beautiful array of colours that are shown in brochures or on google! The tour was also quite long; which is good... More

Hi, Sarah. Thank you for your review. We sad to hear you didn't get to see the light in all their splendour. They are dependent on solar storms and depending on how strong they are, the lights can be everything from very faint to filling the sky with green, pink, white and purple. So, the lights shown in the brochures... More

booked this tour 1.5hrs before departure time through our hotel when we saw the Northern Lights forecast was good for that night. we were lucky to see the lights which lasted for about 20mins while we did expect that there'll be many people (given that this company is a big company). we did not expect that many people. 4 full... We forgot to reserve the location for bus pickup for my daughter and she only had skype in Iceland. I emailed Reykjavik excursions and they let us rebook for the next day. They had responded right away so we could send it before work on skype. They totally saved her vacation! They are sooo kind!!! She went today and loved... More

We did the Northern Lights by boat tour by Reykjavik Excursions. Even though it was pretty cold, it was a great experience. We saw the lights before we even left the harbor and once we were away from the city a bit, they were even stronger. The boat has a few interior areas to warm up and a large open... More

Iceland was easiest the best country on our European tour. Beautiful and amazing guided tour. That said.. the lights at this time of year (November) are much rarer than you will be lead to believe. To see the lights with the naked eye and not through a high def long exposure camera providing a faint green tinge, is next to... More

Our tour guide was excellent she set up her camera and showed us the small amount of northern lights she could see on camera and took our pictures. We went on to another sight hoping to see more but we did not see much more
