Life in Iceland
Aug. 2020 • Solo
This museum gives a good look at the daily life of a person in Iceland in the early nineteen hundreds. There are personal stories, household artifacts, stories, and pictures with great detail of the way of life.

I cried like a child with the Karítas story. This museum is a little gem unexpectedly found. The location is amazing, as well

To learn more about the way of life of Icelandic people who are making a living by fishing.
The museum shows how was the inside of local homes.
Visit is quick but interesting and you might enjoy some fish tasting :
- very little tiny bites of smoked shark that you MUST not touch with your fingers, not because of a bite risk but because of the smelling that would not leave you like an Halloween spell! and you keep the taste in mouth for hours ...
- and some kind of dry pulled fish meat, rather chewy, just to know what it is, maybe you enjoy it better the next time ...
and with the fish you have a small shot of local schnapps or liquor to help swallowing.

Quaint little museum
Aug. 2019 • Couples
An unassuming little museum in a house near the pier. Lots of displays depicting everyday life and the fishing industry. Dried fish and “rotten shark” were offered to taste. Try it if you’re brave enough. Oh, and don’t forget to pet the friendly cats.

Provides understanding of the area

The Isafjordur Maritime Museum was my first stop in Isafjordur and, with the exception of my trying dried (fermented?) shark, it was well worth it. The museum can best be described as quaint. And the facilities really are beautiful.

But what makes this museum so apt is that it really is tied in with the city. Isafjordur is a maritime city with strong ties to the ocean. Learning about Icelandic seafaring really helped me to appreciate the town.

Interesting Insight into Maritime Heritage and So Much More.

The lovely little museum was our location for the conclusion of our Sunday morning's Isafjord Culture Walk led by Herbert, a life-long local resident and full time travel agent whom we contacted through our Viator Internet search of TTD while in town for the day on our cruise. The museum provides an historic look back on their beloved marine past in old-film and memorabilia. It is located just a 5-10 minute walk from the tiny, yet bustling commercial port. A very interesting 30-45 visit. Highly recommended.

Lovely museum - old films a highlight
Aug. 2018 • Couples
A must see if in Isafjordur. Very close to the harbour (but then most things are). The old films of the fishing industry here definitely the highlight. Don't miss the upper floors (steep steps).
