I rented this wifi for 2 weeks. It worked great! I needed to return it earlier than expected and they said once I returned it they would refund the unused days. It comes in a small box with charging cable. Once done you can mail it back at the airport. Only hiccup was picking it up. Normally you can pick it up at the airport but due to covid it wasn’t possible. I was advised to pick it up at a store in Reykjavik- only the hrs listed were not accurate. I dont fault the company- everything was changing fast almost daily due to covid updates/changes. I still recommend trawire.

Thank you for your review. Regarding opening hours and pickup locations. At the time of your rental we where just waking up after covid. The downtown shop had opening hours on day to day basis and our Airport location closed due to screening using our space. We are sorry for misleading info but very glad that the device was working for you. We will be happy to see you again.

The pocket wifi worked flawlessly. A few times we lost connectivity in remote areas. The connection speed was good. We had 4 devices hooked up to it - mostly using Google maps, some surfing for restaurants and information, some movie streaming. At the end of the day, we had 25-35% battery life remaining.
The most difficult part of using the pocket wifi was figuring out pick up and drop off locations, which is why I'm writing this review.
Pick up: at the 1011 store, just before leaving Keflavik airport. They have a drawer full of these, all charged and ready to go. I was able to select one that was newer.
Drop off: bright red postal box, 1st floor, by the "Odd size" baggage check in area. The box is not that obvious (esp since I didn't even know what color it was). It is by the back wall.
By the way, I was able to accidentally sign into someone else's wifi box using the pwd assigned to me by the company. I wouldn't use the service for banking!

Excellent wifi connection for our family of four, while we were traveling around Iceland. We also received a wifi modem from our car rental company, but it wasn't as reliable or fast as the Trawire modem, so we never used it. The kids were watching youtube videos and we were using google maps and websites while driving through a lot of deserted areas, without the connection dropping. We also used it at Airbnbs and hotels that didn't have reliable wifi. In addition, their customer service is absolutely top-notch. Hilmar met me personally to deliver (and pick up) the accessories package since the pick-up place forgot to give it to me. I wish more countries offered this amazing wifi service!

In the midst of a worldwide crisis Trawire will not provide me a refund 3 full days before my rental pickup was supposed to take place. They are the only company I booked with on my trip to Iceland that has been unreasonable about doing right by their customers and providing a refund. For an item that can be rented on the spot without any notice at all this is unacceptable. I would think twice about renting a device from Trawire in general, but definitely in advance.

We'd honestly give 6 stars if we could! Pick-up and return processes were clear and easy. Connectivity throughout our tour of Iceland's Ring Road was astounding. I swear this thing was more reliable than our home Wi-Fi network. We only had drops in service a couple of times (seemingly only in very busy areas). We seemed to keep connection even in the remotest of places we went, which was incredibly helpful.
Especially given that both my wife and I could connect our devices to one hotspot, we wouldn't hesitate to rent again if we return to Iceland. Highly recommended.

On pick-up of my rental, I was given a wifi that seemed quite old and dated. This should've been the first clue. A few hours later, it was dead. On trying to charge it with their included wire, the plug barely stayed in. After a few tries and finally getting the wire to stay plugged, it seemed like it was charging. A few more hours later, it was still not working. After charging it overnight, the thing was still dead. I contacted them via email since I didn't have calling access and it was also the weekend. They were quick to reply and we tried a few troubleshooting ideas. Nothing worked, so I asked for a refund. I was told to return it and once they received it, I would get my money back. Mind you, the return box they give you comes with a stamp and no tracking of any kind. We were on the road and hours away. I was lucky to find a postal box inside a gas station, so I dropped it off and emailed them. Two weeks later, I checked my credit card and saw nothing returned. I contacted them to remind them of the promise of a refund. I received no replies, nothing! Just turn your international data on. It's more reliable, less headache, and just about the same price. This company is a joke and a rip-off! Absolutely no ethics.

I rented modem, power battery, charger and car plug.
As shop in the airport was closed for collection, Trawire delivered direct to my hotel. When I arrived at the hotel, the whole package was already there waiting for me.
Very good wifi connection in Iceland, including remote areas such as Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon, Dettifoss and Husavik.
On return, it was easy to post the package in the airport post-box.

I had an unfortunate tragedy on our flight to Iceland. My wife passed away on the plane. When Trawire learned of my situation, a rep actually brought the hotspot device to my hotel for me and, on top of that, refunded the entire rental charge. They also happily extended the rental for the duration of my extended time there. Any company that would treat a customer with such care and concern is certainly one I can not recommend enough

I will visit remote area of Iceland, such as Jokulsarlon glacier and Dettifoss waterfall. I need wifi connection to use Whatsapp for calls. Will this device provide such needs in these areas?
