If you are lucky then you might see the IcelandAir DC3 here. But, if not then you will see a wide range of planes reflecting the passion that this area has for aviation. Some pretty good models too! Nothing stuffy at all about this the most friendly of museums.

My wife and I happened upon this museum on a day when it would normally have been closed. However, the Director, who was on the premises at the time, very kindly let us in. We spent a very interesting and enjoyable couple of hours looking around this fascinating collection.

Give yourself an hour at least to listen to the stories and view the exhibits at this museum. We had the nicest guide who explained in detail the birth of aviation in Iceland and who the aviation pioneers were for the country. The stories were excellent! The exhibits are very detailed with lots of assorted bits and a very good... More

The museum was close to our hotel and we had to visit. My husband is a pilot and was delighted by the interesting collection they had. The tour guide was awesome and very knowledgeable. We would recommend this stop for anyone interested in planes, history and Iceland.

I could never expect to find in Akureyri such a complete and interesting museum! Even if you are not a pilot there are so many stories in that hangar, starting from the age when flying was a real adventure: romantic and dangerous at the same time. We have been "escorted" throughout our visit by one of the responsible of the... More

Upon arriving, my family and I were greeted by two members of staff, who spoke very fluent English. Just from a 15 minute conversation we learnt several things about the Museum and its history. The Museum is trustworthy towards its visitors, with many objects being easily reachable - however out of respect do not touch the items. Brilliant museum, spent... More

A fascinating museum with lots to see. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful - showing us round. It covers the history offlying in Iceland. Most of the aircraft you will see are still in working order. A lovely place.

This museum was on my wish-list for several years. But in July 2016 I managed to visit it. The staff is very friendly and helpfull. We made a lot of pictures. Every airplane is very good maintained. A big part is still flying. Sadly for us, the DC-3 wasn't there. But two weeks later I saw it in Reykjavik! This... More
