Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Right when we boarded, our local guide gave us and the other passengers the option to drop out and reschedule, since the parameters to see the lights were worse than expected from the forecast. As it was our last night in the city, we all wanted to at least try. Against all odds, it only took us about 20 minutes in the car until that bloodhound suddenly stopped at the side of the road and after a quick check made us bounce out of the car. What at first seemed like an ordinary passing cloud turned out to be the beginning of an unforgettable light show. Being a humble viking, our guide did not brag at all about this surprising gem he sniffed out in the wilderness. :D
This really was an experience that can not be matched. Thank you Imagine Iceland Travel, for making this dream become reality!

I already did a lengthy review of Imagine Iceland's tailored private tour in the north. It was fantastic. But they were also a great bunch to work with in general. They answered questions quickly, offered good advice, and when things were iffy for the northern lights, they didn't push us to waste our time but offered candid and helpful guidance. Ultimately we canceled that tour (on their advice I'd add) and they were quick to process the refund. A great experience with them.

We had the most incredible time on our northern lights tour. Our host was amazing, really funny and knowledgable. Our first trip was delayed due to bad weather, and the second night didn’t look great either so we were able to go on the trip on the third night and saw some beautiful but fleeting lights. Our guide called us the next day to ask if we wanted to join that evenings tour as there was room and it was magical. The lights were incredible and we can’t thank our tour guide enough, or be grateful enough we booked with Imagine Iceland Travel! Don’t hesitate to book!

This was one of the best tours in Iceland for us (I’ve been twice) - Iceland is going to be beautiful anywhere you go, so ultimately, anyone you go with is going to get you to where you (generally) need to be. The difference is then with the guides that you choose, and this choice has all the potential to take your trip to the next level.

We did the Arctic Circle tour with Armann and he was clearly the best tour guide we had in Iceland.

He was very knowledgeable and patient with the multitude of questions we asked, and was an officially certified tour guide. These were questions and well-informed answers that were in a wider context than what we were seeing, which really added to our understanding of Iceland and Akureyri. He also made changes to the tour as we went along according to our tastes and what was prudent to see. What was really sweet was that he took us to a really, really good ice cream place at the end when it was not included in the tour. Armann helped us feel comfortable and I couldn’t see us enjoying northern Iceland more than we did with Armann and Imagine Iceland.

When we return, I would go straight back here; if friends and family decided to go, I would call Armann first!

One more thing: I left something in the car at the end (after we had been at a brewery), and Armann drove to the airport to drop it off before the flight (and in very short time after I called). Seriously, the best.

We made the choice to take private, small tours rather than the big cruise ship tours so we were not queuing to get off a large bus to take a photograph and this ticked that box and more.
The tour was excellent. We were collected at the port on time we saw all the interesting sites with a very knowledgeable guide. There were 10 of us on the tour which was fantastic. The first stop was the Godafoss waterfall which was spectacular it was a horseshoe shape and very fast. To get there we went through the 7.4 Km tunnel through the rock. They had had trouble constructing it as they kept hitting hot water and steam. In the middle it was 25C outside it was -2C
From there we went to Lake Myvatin which was again fantastic, we stopped at a hotel for a comfort break then walked to the Lake and looked at the Souterrain craters which were craters formed by gases and lava bursting through the earths crust. The earth is black from volcano ash. We went from there to Lava fields that the locals say trolls live, the shapes of the lava are said to be troll like and they have 13 days leading up to Christmas were children explore the area looking for Father Christmas.
We looked at the tectonic plates were they push against each other to cause a fission a really deep canyon. There was also a pool under the fault that was 48C
From there we went to look at the funnels which were hot mud pits bubbling and steaming the smelt really strongly of sulphur dioxide. Really fabulous.
We then went to the natural thermal pool, we had coffee and looked at the pool it was a large rock pool full of naturally heated water.
We stopped on route to look at volcanos and over the town of Akureyri. The place is dramatic, spectacular and totally raw. I loved it.
On our way back to the ship we drove through the Old Town and our guide pointed out interesting houses. I really felt that we had a good understanding of the area falling the tour. There was no worries about arriving back at the ship on time, the guide was very clear that we would and the companies reputation depended on it.
Excellent -Thank you

Finding a guide that speaks perfect English and is entertaining is wonderful. Our trip was filled with more adventures than advertised. All in all our whole trip to Norway we will remember this excursion trip the most of any other excursion. Couldn't say enough to describe the beauty and majestic touring providing by this tour company.

If you don't have your own vehicle, then I can't recommend this day tour highly enough. You get to see the spectacular Godafoss Waterfall, several excellent volcanic features, some great views of the lake and nearby mountains, and visit the nature baths which is a heated pond set in the lava field. It's warm enough and being outside in a natural setting is wonderful. It has a small gift shop and cafe where our tour group had lunch. There were 17 people in our group. We had a great guide, wry and informed as his family goes back many generations in the Lake Myvatn area. We all had a great time even on a cold, windy day.

Our tour guide was very knowledgeable; we visited interesting sites and had plenty of time to take pictures and to explore. My objection to the trip was the transportation. The van was an unpleasant mode of transporting people who wanted to look out the windows to see the scenery. The windows were small (19 inches in height, similar to a windows on a large SUV) Sitting on an inner seat one needed to scrunch down in order to see out the window. People couldn't see down the middle of the van because there was a bench seat in front so it blocked the view out the front window. Sitting near the window necessitated everyone to wipe the fog off the windows. We asked several times to turn up the fan to defog the windows, but it didn't help. Most of the time is spent in the van looking out the windows so the van should be conducive to that. I would suggest to book with a different company on that basis.

We experienced this tour with Imagine Iceland Travel and our excursion was fantastic. First of all, the guide (Arman?) is local and very knowledgeable of the region. Second, the company is very professional. Our minibus had a mechanical issue. The company managed to seamless rotate the different groups with the remaining minibus with no impact whatsoever to our excursion. In a few hours, a brand new rental minibus showed up and we even had time to some extra activities before we returned to our ship. Kudos to the guides!!

The winter tour started in Akureyri, visited highlights of the Diamond Circle and we added on a trip to Dettifoss. It was not only spectacularly beautiful but also a culturally rich introduction to the region. Our guide, Årmann, provided a detailed cultural and geologic perspective to the major sights that we could never have obtained from guide books, and patiently answered all our questions. Årmann is a certified guide, experienced in winter driving and activities, kind and patient, and a history buff - a true renaissance viking.
Consider sun screen on sunny winter days.
