I was really looking forward to visiting the Design District after all I had read about it. What I hadn't read is that everything except restaurants is closed by 6 pm. We checked into our hotel and walked around to check it out and--nothing, except...More

You must be careful with this place as it can easily happen that you get stuck there for hours and hours. Time does fly there. Even just a walk down the district is inspiring on it's own.

Helsinki is divided into districts and one of them is the Design district. Some great retail outlets and cafes to escape into from the cold days of winter.

You can spend quite some time shopping fine Finnish design in this area. We especially liked the Iittala shop on the Boulevard where you this year (2017) can buy a special centenary edition with among other Aalto glasses.

Would not highly recommend this area unless you're spending time at the nearby Design Museum. The design shops are a good number but spread far apart. Good records shops around though.

Helsinki is the center of Finnish design, so I really wanted to have a look at the shops. I found the Finnish design beautiful and timeless, but also very expensive. Even so I managed to buy some lovely home decorations for less then € 10....More

We knew about the design district before our trip and headed there right from our bus. While there are plenty of design houses and design businesses, many with window displays, the retail aspect was weak. Retail is quite spread out and underwhelming. There's a lot...More
