Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Mäntyniemi is one of the three official residences of the President of Finland, besides the Presidential Palace next to the Market Square and the summer residence Kultaranta in Naantali.
When President Kekkonen fell ill in 1981, the official residence Tamminiemi was set aside for him. The Government decided to build a new Presidential residence in the Meilahti district of Helsinki. It was designed by renowned Finnish architects Reima and Raili Pietilä. The construction work was completed in 1993.
Four Finnish presidents have lived there: Mauno Koivisto, Martti Ahtisaari, Tarja Halonen, and Sauli Niinistö.
The residence is not open to public and very little can be seen from outside.
However, there is a beautiful Maila Talvio Park in front of the residence. Also, the Seurasaari Open-Air Museum is located nearby.

A creamy yellow building which is visible from Market square. It is not open to the public. There are guards in the compound of the building. There is nothing much to see from the outside.

The pictures depict the Presedential Palace as it's called in Finnish but name implies that the reviews would be for the Presidents official residence.
Let me clearify this.
The president's representative offices are in the Presidential Palace. Most of the state visits and banquettes are organised here. The Palace is located next the the Market Square, close to the Uspenski Cathedral (red brick Russian church) and the Senate Square (with the white Lutheran chatedral, Helsinki's most pictured monument). The Palace is not open to public.
However, the president does not reside in the Palace. His / her (which ever sex it may be at any given time) is located some 5 km north, close to Seurasaari Museum Island. The residence is a modern building by the sea. You cannot see it from the road and cannot get in - unless invited. Mäntyniemi residence was ready in 1993, after four years of construction. It's very edgy building - it has 212 corners in enterior and 300 different sized windows. To see the place you would need to get yourself a kanoe from the nearly kanoe rental outlet or have a boat to pass by - you can't get very near, though, the place is well guarded.

The picture here is of the presindential castle, not the residence Mäntyniemi which is situated outside the city and is not open for public.

Visited here as this is opposite the harbour and market. Its not open to the public and is used for official engagements but the president doesn't live there. But you can view outside and take pictures we did see a changing of the guard whilst there too.

Technically, there are 3 very different and distant structures available to the president for either residential use or entertaining visitors. They are: (1) Presidential Palace which really is not used as a residence nor has it been used for that purpose in more than 20 years; (2) Mantyniemi in Mantyniementie; and (3) Kuitaranta.
The Presidental Palace Official Residence is only used for governmental purposes and also there are rooms set aside for the President's entertaining purposes only. No one goes to sleep here anymore (on purpose, that is).

This is a beautiful old building facing the harbour and the main market square and is mainly used for official duties and events. It is not open to the public but photographs of the outside are easy to take!

Please notice the picture and the title of this review do not match: the picture is of the President´s palace in the Helsinki city center (empire style building) whereas the official residence Mantyniemi (of modern architecture) is located several kilometers from the city center. President´s palace is facing the sea front (address is Mariankatu 2, facing the Farmer´s Market) and it is used for formal occasions: meetings with state visitors, receiving new foreign Ambassadors, appointing/releasing Government, etc. Also the President´s office (his/her "mailing address) is in this building. The main event of the year is the annual Independence Day Ball held on 6th of December which is the most watched televised event in Finland: everyone wants to see (and criticize!) the formal dresses of the invited guests. However, please note the President does not live here: for that purpose the President has an official residence "Mäntyniemi". Nevertheless, both places (palace and the residence) are closed for public and you can only view them from outside. The palace recently underwent a thorough renovation and held one "open house" for the public. New open house dates are not planned.

The Presidential Residence is located on the main street near the port area. You can recognize it is something different because of the gold painting on the fence. It is not well marked, so in order to know what it is you have to see the sign by the gate. It has an impressive exterior. It's a pity that it is not open for the public for viewing.

One of the official residence of the Finnish president, very beautiful and a timely piece architect. Tourist can watch from afar because it is not for the public unlike the other presidential residence in Kultaranta, Naantali which has a guided tours.
