Cozy church

This church is in the middle of Suomenlinna. The interior is very simple, and it takes no more than five minutes to visit it.

Like other churches what has been in the middle of some war, you can sense the bombing inside these walls.

Refreshing. I personally get over churches every time I visit somewhere but this was different. There are giant chains around the border of the yard and a bell sits at ground level. It's slightly raised but it doesn't really provide any views. What does make it unique is that it is a lighthouse so definitely wait until after dark. I... More

Old church with tied to the history of Finland and it being caught in a historical tug of war between Sweden and Russia. Interesting is the use of old cannons as part of the architecture and grounds of the church - but then again it is a church on a naval fortress island.....

We stopped for a minute to take a look at the Suomenlinna Church while we were touring the fortress. The church was somewhat plan in appearance but it was made interesting by the fact that it also operated as a functional lighthouse. It's definitely worth a quick visit.

The church is located not far from where the ferry boat dropped us. Just a couple of minutes walk. There was nothing special about this church. But you may stop by since it is on the way.

Suomenlinna's Church has a very distinctive design, as it was previously an Orthodox Church which was converted to a Lutheran one and it's also quite unique in having a lighthouse on the top. The interior is quite plain inside, in keeping with the usual style of Lutheran churches but it was pleasant enough. Worth checking out are the displays on... More

This church is located in the famous fortress island Suomenlinna. One takes a public transport ferry to the island from the main market square right opposite the president palace. The church is soon as you enter the island. As a church it is a typical example of Lutherian old church. Open on daytime so one can look inside. During the... More
