Katajanokka is the place to visit. It is very easy for me to say because I live here at Katajanokka. Cannot think a better place to live. Everything is a stone through away. Restaurants. The Helsinki Market Place, ICE Brakers, Allas ( a New attraction with outdoor pool all years round. Skywheel, Flytour etc.

A quite neighbourhood that is nice for a walk, also the location of the historic Orthodox church which is definitely worth a visit as well as the sky wheel for a bit of fun.

Good place to walk along the sea. Beautiful views. On katajanokka you can book a room in a hotel which is an old prison.

I stayed in the hotel in March 2017 for 1 night on a business trip. The room was nice but the hotel is nothing special. Breakfast is only average. I don't recommend.

Quiet neighbourhood full of charming Jugend/Art Nouveau architecture. An absolute delight to explore. Very small area so only an hour or so needed. Just beautiful.

The past of this small island connected with three short bridges was dominated by the Navy, harbour and prison. Most of the old buildings were luckily restored and converted for modern purposes. At the last stop of tramline 4 are the yellow empire palaces of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which were built in 1836 for the Navy according to... More

For the people who come with cruising ships (specially in the summer) should take a little walk around this famous small cape of Katajanokka. It has a lively history with lots of seamen, docks, warehouses, customs and of course the famous prison. The prison is nowadays a hotel where you can spend your nigths (and days in former cells. Katajanokka is a part of Helsinki centre that is actually a tiny island and you reach it by whatever means through two pretty narrow bridges. Being directly next to sea, it is often windy and cold. Big ships land and leave here to Sweden, Tallinn etc. There are some very good restaurants on Katajanokka, and the latest invention is a... More

A historical neighborhood in Helsinki with its own atmosphere. Take a few hours to walk Katajanokka around, in the harbor, summertime, sip a drink.

If you visit Helsinki and look for an interesting residential area downtown, do invest an hour in walking around the Katajanokka - Skatudden. Originally a cape it is now separated from the city by a narrow canal. The "old part" consists of residential buildings from around 1890 to 1920 with the Art Noveu, or Jugend, as the predominant style. This... More
