Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma was closed for one year because of the renovation works. We visited on the opening day when also the new ARS22 exhibition was opened.

ARS22 is the tenth installment in the series of major international contemporary art exhibitions originally launched in 1961. Over the decades, the ARS exhibitions have presented the public with the latest trends in contemporary art.

In our opinion, this exhibition is one of the best this museum has had. There was so much to see.

Kiasma is a contemporary art museum in an interesting looking modern building from 1998. Kiasma is part of the Finnish National Gallery.

There are five floors and every floor has different exhibitions. So usually there is something for everybody.

On our visit, the main exhibition was Seppo Fränti's Mad Love. He donated his extensive collection to Kiasma in 2017. The Mad Love features over 200 artworks.

Went mainly to see Mad Love - which is over 200 pieces from Seppo Fränti’s own collection. It is modern art mainly from past two decades. The variety of pieces is quite big but I really liked it. They also had couple other presentations at the same time.

The museum of modern art is located in a modern white building next to the station. Entrance fee of 20 euros is included in the Helsinki card. As expected in a museum of this kind you can find both clever and weird stuff, the kind that the cleaners clear up mistakenly at the end of the day. There are alternating exhibitions. I was impressed by the display of Tom from Finland. Even though I found the content controversial and explicit, the art itself was very clever and I believe important for this community that is still having a hard time in many countries in the world. It is commendable that the museum facilitates this kind of exhibition that would be forbidden in many other places. The other exhibitions were less interesting, it eluded me what to see in exposed twigs or out of focus videos. But overall I guess anyone will always find something to his or her taste.

Great looking building and surrounding area. Excellent space over 5 floors. In terms of the exhibition at the time I visited I was not impressed by the odd displays of mundane and boring home themed exhibits. Only a handful of genuine pieces that looked intricate and clever were worth stopping for. Some of the odd things were fun and had some hint of being interesting to look at but for the most part it was laughably poor to see things that you would not describe as art. Nothing looked clever. I could not believe what I was looking at. The big screen videos were unsettling and uninspiring. I could not watch for long. The ticket price of €22 for an adult was too much for this too. Just not good value. I’m sure better exhibitions would warrant the price but not this one.

No great emotions arise when visiting the new Ars 22 exhibition on three floors of the museum still partly under construction wraps. Considering the exceptional times we have been living hardly anything - good or bad has filtered down to the pieces on show. The Assyrians by Michael Rakowitz under the title "The invisible enemy should not exist" made the most impression depicting destroyed art made again live by using wasted package materials. For some reason there is also a large Francis Bacon loaned from Tampere and an iconic Kimmo Kaivanto among the new works.

We were only able to see one exhibition because we were running late –which is a shame because the museum has a lot of pros: it is well located and on a nice modern building, the entrance has no cost, it has free WIFI and it has a cute cafeteria and an artsy store.

I appreciate and enjoy modern art in general (although it is VERY variable) but the exhibition I saw was not much of my liking. Still, I would’ve liked to explore the rest of the museum.

If you’re nearby and have some time to spare, I recommend taking a look.

We have Finnish museum cards and the entrance is always free for us. So it was easy and pleasurable to escape the freezing cold temperatures inside this museum. With the 20 euro entrance fee, I would think twice before entering.

The top 5th floor has usually the visually most stunning exhibitions because the space is so high. So it was also this time.

There was Markus Copper's exhibition 'The Taste of Metal'. He is best known for his large, spatially dominating works that feature sounds, mechanical movement, or light. On our visit, many of his works were inoperational but still visually quite striking.

Floors 2-3 had quite an interesting exhibition 'Navigating North'. It had a focus on works by artists from or working in Northern Finland.

My favorite part of this experience was the stunning architecture. The collection of contemporary art is rotating so It's hard to make a general statement about it. When I was there (October 2022) it was mainly a collection of quirky installation pieces, which is what most contemporary art in museums is. One is either intrigued and fascinated by the often controversial statements being made or one hates it. I fall into the former category, hence the high rating.

One installation that stood out to me was a wire wall in front of a large window on which museum goers are invited to place a found object or make their own to put on the wall. They rotate the objects regularly so the wall is constantly changing.

Went there to see the Markus Copper exhibit and even though most of the exhibit was exciting and very interesting, it was a disappointment as some of his works were under maintenance that day. The placement of many of his works was also weird and off putting. Other than that I really enjoyed the video footage and all the material you can't find on the internet. If I went alone, I would've stayed a couple of hours just to soak everything in. Overall the whole building was easy to stroll through, so you could see all the exhibitions. Staff was nice and it was an interesting museum.
