Seaside peace statue
Jun. 2020
This female statue of peace was erected in 1968 as a symbol of the friendship between Finland and the Soviet Union.

The bronze work is 5,35 meters high and its red granite pedestal 3 meters high. The seaside location near the Olympic Terminal is beautiful.

Peace arriving
Apr. 2019 • Solo
The statue by Essi Renvall from 1968 used to raise remarks about the direction it is facing, people wondered why she was turning her back to those arriving to Helsinki by boat. The gift of the Finnish governement to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the YYA-deal made with the Soviet Union after a lost war to live in peace and harmony it was also attacked as pure political propaganda of the Kekkonen era. The artistic merits are under no doubt with influences of ancient Egyptian statues.

Finland is a peaceful country and this statue confirms this. It was erected to confirm the peace and friendship with its neighbour Russia.

Superb portrayal of friendship
Sep. 2017 • Couples
Unveiled in 1968 this fine sculpture symbolises peace and friendship between Finland and the Soviet Union (as it then was).

It is marvellously placed at the sea edge and is thus framed with a backdrop both of the skyline and the ocean.

It is a most impressive bronze depiction of the female figure.
