Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is an excellent area to indulge in the nautical and maritime history of Gothenburg to present day. Even on a cool cloudy day the area was fascinating

To get an idea of Gothenburg as a maritime city all through its history it makes sense to also go to the Lilla Bommen area on the river Göta Älv. The name means 'Little Boom' - and naturally there is also a 'Stora Bommen' (Large Boom), which is located further west, but not really a place to go and visit. Once booms used to block the entries in and out of the river and canals here.

Today Lilla Bommen is a yacht and guest harbour with several attractions. To the west is the Opera House from 1994, while on its east is the conspicuous, white and red skyscraper Skansaskrapen (1989), popularly known as the Lipstick', with offices and a top-floor restaurant. It is work by well known British-born architect Ralph Erskine, who spent most of his life in Sweden. Another attractions here is the 'Viking', a four masted barque, built 1906 in Copenhagen, which is considered as the largest ever built Scandinavian sailboat. After having travelled the world it now functions as a hotel and can only be admired from the outside, unless one is a guest.

Fascinating for me was also, when at Lilla Bommen, to have a look at the Hisingsbron lift bridge in action, which crosses the Göta Älv river, to let through some high masted sailboats. Close to the Opera House there is also an interesting bronze statue of a sitting Evert Taube (1890-1976), a sailor and very popular singer-songwriter, known as Sweden's foremost troubadour. The work is by Finnish-Karelian sculptor Eino Hanski, also a well known figure in Sweden's art scene.

Read about this harbor in other reviews, so went here today. To us it waan’t worth the trip. Just a regular harbor, nothing special.

Pretty view from a viking ship as a hotel. Especially if the is sunny. The wave sounds give us great sense of being in middle sea

Excellent View Point. The best view point to see the Gothenburg skyline in my opinion. The Go City card includes this attraction. Well recommended.

This was a pleasant harbour walk, sadly, the Maritman Museum was closed at the time of our visit so we were unable to visit that area. Some pleasant photos however were taken of the ships and boats in the harbour.

Beautiful place and location. Amazing view over the harbour, although quite windy. It was quite rainy and not the best weather but cleared up around sunset leaving spectacular views. Probably best in summer :)

Went to see during a weekend in Gothenburg. But alas, the viewing platform was closed. A strange yet nice looking building, I also enjoyed the nearby ship and opera house.

Lilla Bommen is the essentially a small harbour full of boats with some lovely scenery including the ‘lipstick’ building and the opera house.

We had a lovely wander around this area early one morning. Very peaceful.

Yeah, literally known by being the ugliest building in Gothenburg. Nothing to see here. Ugly port also.
