Great museum on the Swedish author and playwright August Strindberg. The residential building is amazing in itself with a working ornate art deco lift and stairwell.
The museum is split into two sections. One half explores Strindberg's work and life (with space for temporary exhibitions), while the other half is a restored museum of the beautiful apartment he spent the last four years of his life in. There is also his reconstructed library on the sixth floor.

This is a recreation of one of 24 places in Stockholm in which Strindberg lived. The exhibition is excellent, with many editions of his works, clips from films and theatre productions, model sets, personal memorabilia. One room is devoted to temporary exhibitions. The museum is on the 4th floor of a recently restored building - check out the lift and windows on the half-landings.

If you are a Strindberg fan you will love the visit to this museum. For people that know less about his works and life, it's a great opportunity to encounter with the genius, called Strindberg. The entry is included in the Stockholm Card, the small museum shop offers different editions of his works in several languages, there are couple of nice souvenirs as well (unfortunately no t-shirts available). Museum is open from 12.00 to 16.00 except on Mondays, but no matter what time you go, there isn't a big rush of tourists (you can meet locals or students doing their homework). The museum itself consists of the apartment, where everything was kept exactly the same way it was left by Strindberg and 3 more halls with info about his life and different personal objects. I enjoyed the most Strindbergs paintings, there is displayed also a portrait of him made by Edvard Munch! You can't miss the way to the pretty building - the street leading to it, Drottninggatan, is decorated with Strindbergs quotes all the way long to the Blå tornet.

It took about 15 minutes to visit this museum. Just not worth it and I don't understand why the reviews are so good. The museum does not cater to English speaking tourists - most of the displays are in Swedish. I do not recommend this when there are so many other more worthwhile things to see in Stockholm. Perhaps worthwhile if you have more than a few days as I did.

We went here a few days ago and it's a lovely little museum, especially taking the old style lift to the top. Most if the info is in English so brush up on your Swedish! One major point that annoyed us was the older lady with glasses at the reception. We must have waited in front if her for about ten minutes to buy a ticket while she was in the phone to somebody. To go into Strinberg's private quarters, you have to put plastic blue protective bags over your shoes. We could find or see any so we went back to reception to ask for them but she was still on the phone! We went in without them on in the end. Didnt even get a goodbye. Basic customer service

We did the tour, which is available at a modest price, and our guide was knowledgeable and welcoming. Lots of items on display accompanied by descriptions that offer visitors an insight into Strindberg's life. The highlight of the tour was Strindberg's library upstairs. For those keen to learn even more, there are movie sections available. After your visit, you might want to check out the bookstore next door.

The museum is up several flights of stairs in a vintage apartment building - there is an elevator but it wasn't clear whether or not it was working. You can't enter Strindberg's front door, you enter through a side door, put booties on your feet and can walk through his last apartment, complete with sound effects (you can hear the poor man coughing at his desk as he worked). They've done a good job on the apartment, less so on the rest of the museum. Most of the exhibits are in Swedish and it is hard to get a sense of what they actually have. There are some English precis panels which discuss various aspects of this complex controversialist and playwright. An hour well spent.

This is a fabulous little place if you like drama or literature. It is Strindberg's last apartment where he ended up dying. It has many of his personal effects, and makes you feel like you actually knew Strindberg as a person. Do go.

Even if I haven't read any of his books yet, I spent an interesting hour at the museum learning a lot about Strindberg, his life and works. The visit inspired me to start reading "Röda rummet".

Nice little museum
You can visit the rental appartement the writer had.
A small museum gives at the hand of some keywords an overview of his life
Most information is only available in Swedish. Also the movie is only in Swedisch
Count max 1 hour for a visit.
