The changing of the guard happens at 12 om everyday. You will want to get there by 11:40 to get a good spot. It lasts about 35 minutes and is worth the visit. After you can and tour the palace.
This palace may not be one of Europe's biggest ones, but I would definitely recommend it for a visit as it actually has some very interesting elements. I would also suggest to take a guided tour both into the palace and the Tre Kronor museum...More
If you are on time you can watch the guards changing. You can take photos with guards but you have to stay 5 metres away from them.
