Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Mariatorget is a lovely city park and square in the Södermalm district.

The original name from the end of the 1760s was Adolf Fredriks square. In 1959, it was renamed as Mariatorget according to the nearby Maria Magdalena church.

The central fountain is called 'Thor's fishing'. It depicts the Viking God Thor.

The area surrounding the park offers many shops, cafes, and bars.

5 stars: It’s a playground!
2 stars: It’s just a swing.
So 3 stars then? Kids got to swing for a few minutes. But it seems it’s also just next to where most peoples dogs like to do their business constantly. Glad to swing but a minor letdown for the kids.
The park has a beautiful fountain.
Oh well!

A really nice, small parc surrounded by many restaurants and cafes. Perfect spot for a break after the day of walking around the city.

This square has a number of nice restaurants but what is especially cool is the fountain with a statue titled “Thor Fishing” . The Norse tale tells of Thor slaying the Midgard serpent, a sea monster whose body encircled the entire earth. With a bull’s head as bait, Thor fished up the monster

The little park itself isn't special. The fountain of Thor battling with some monster is. That monster has some guts spitting that bout of water right into Thors' face.

The park is 50 meters from the eastern entrance/exit of metro Mariatorget.
Not worth a detour. But if you happen to pass by, it's a nice thing to do and hardly will cost you any time.

you should walk past this square which is quite nice, but only if you have time to spare as there are so many nice places to visit around here.

Let's face it, this park isn't that big and there are better parks around the city, but the main reason I visited was to see the awesome statue of Thor, wielding Mjolnir against the Midgard serpent. It's a great sculpture fountain that's worth the brief walk from the subway station to visit.

This is a great place to take the weight of yer feet, watch the world go by and enjoy a coffee or ice-cream.
Listen to the sparrows tweeting away, then they fall silent, in unison, as if they have been conducted to do so.

Mariatorget is a great place to meet up. Here are plenty of lawn and benches to sit and chill. Plenty of cafés around and 7eleven close by if you want to take a 'fika' out to the park.

Not a huge amount of local drug addicts but there are some more old school alcoholics that might hang around in the outskirt of the park... But nothing you need be afraid of :-)

A nice and calm square in the most pleasant part of Södermalm. Great to stop there for a short rest and enjoy the neighbourhood.
