Excellent accommodation for a family of 4
Jun. 2021
Welcoming staff on arrival and willing to assist. We had initially booked for teh tented camp, but due to the cold weather we were upgraded to the family room. A huge vintage family room with eveyrthing we needed for our overnight stay.
The food on offer was a buffet and very lovely starter/ appetiser.
There are acitvities on offer such as game drive, bird watching etc...hope to do in the future.

Very special sightings

We spent three nights at Karoo Gariep because we wanted to see some of the rare birds and mammals it is known for. Owner PC Ferreira took us on morning and evening drives and we managed to spot black-footed cat, Cape and bat-eared foxes and aardwolf. The reserve is teeming with blue korhaan, Ludwig's bustard and small flocks of blue cranes. PC is a great game-spotter and an endlessly patient host. The food was superb and the accommodation was very comfortable. It was an absolute bargain - you will pay far more and see far less at many other reserves in SA.

Overnight stay

My wife and I were warmly welcomed by the owner, PC Ferreira, who then showed us around the buildings and our room. It was a very spacious farmhouse that was converted into a number of rooms of which we had the master bedroom with en suite bathroom. We had time to walk around and take in the vastness of the surrounds, with a magical Karoo sunset. We relaxed in the dining room around a fire while awaiting a scrumptuous meal. The night was so silent, just as expected. This was a wonderful experience and early next day we continued our journey - really worth the stopover.
