Jamtli offers an exciting journey through the history of Jamtland and Harjedalen. Here you will discover stimulating milieux and enjoy being part of history.

The museum has permanent exhibitions about the region's past alongside temporary exhibitions of arts and handicrafts. Some exhibitions take up current matters of public interest and explore them from an historical perspective.

Every summer, the open air museum turns into Jamtli Historieland (living history theme park). The historical buildings come alive with history and role plays, where visitors are drawn into eventful and playful stories from 1785 until 1975. Jamtli Historieland enables you, as a visitor, to associate with the actors who bring to life and portray people from the past.

Jamtli gives access to our regional heritage and provides a place where we can discuss our values and life-styles, then and now. Jamtli gives you the opportunity to make the most of your visit. Perhaps you would like to bring your own picnic basket and spend your time relaxing in the stunning parks. Or you might want to meet the actors, such as Astrid and Sture who farm the Per Albin-torpet (The Smallholding) from 1942? Or you may be fascinated by the 1,000-year-old tapestries, "The Overhogdal Tapestries". You choose, so bring your whole family, your friends, your company employees or just come on your own to an enjoyable, entertaining and magical museum where you can see, touch and act!

I visited in winter so the buildings in the grounds were closed. The museum is beautifully made, it really feels as if you were outside in the woods. I had a English audio guide which is a must if you do not speak Swedish. Unfortunately, there were almost no laser points at the Viking part (except for the tapestry) so... More

I think this is best as a summer attraction when all the external areas are open. However, we really enjoyed the internal museum which has been superbly put together. This is worth a visit in its own right. The audio guide with English translation is a must. You use a laser to set off short commentaries. These were never boring... More

This was the second restored buildings museum on our trip it is quite big and well spread out so you feel as though you are walking from place to place. The buildings are only manned and open to visitors in high season because of this it is free out of season. The museum and the outside exhibits are well worth... More

This is a very friendly museum with more than you can see in a day. It has wonderful interactive displays for children. Superb displays of historic rural life and crafts. High quality craft goods in the shop and good cafés. All round an extremely high standard of museum experience.

Wonderful display of local history from early times to present. This museum has free entry for nine months of the year and only charges an entry fee during certain special displays or celebrations. We didn't see any of the special displays but were there for five hours looking at the permanent displays (inside) and the outside buildings. We were engaged... More

A walk through history. Fantastic old houses, and actors showing how people lived in Sweden through the last few centuries. Lots for the kids to do. Nice restaurant. Quite expensive to enter, but you can come back the next day for free.

So much to do that the children were amused for hours. The normal entrance ticket is valid for 2 consecutive days. We bought the family ten day pass (even though we were only there for 4 days) as it wasn't much more expensive. The outdoor museum has buildings from different periods in history with actors involving you in different scenarios:... More

We had a great day at Jamtli. It completely exceeded all our expectations. All the people that was living in all the authentic historical buildings (on a voluntary) made such an impression. They played their roles very well and it gave us great pleasure to meet them and listen to their stories from different epochs. You will feel like you... More

We arrived in time for an English speaking tour which was educational, fun and interesting. The actors were so good I forget they weren't really living there. Met some wonderful local people attending the same tour. Wasn't easy to find but it was well worth the trip.

Wonderful place to learn a lot more about Sweden during the last 230 years. With actors who play being in that timeperiod and telling you lots of interesting things. Tours are not only in Swedish, also in English. It's a large park with alot to do and experience for children. It's open from 11.00 a.m. till 5.00 p.m. We needed... More
