Not easy to drive to in a car. The best access is on foot.

A castle ruin. It is locked, perhaps for safety reasons, so you can't get inside. If you can't find it, not to worry!!!!

coach trip to Paderne Medieval Festival. Very good. Lovely warm day but pick up was at 6pm which made trip too long and very cold in the evenings. only one cafe open to have a coffee.

If you want to experience an authentic castle in surroundings that have not changed for hundreds of years then this is the place to go. Full of history and set in the beautiful countryside this was one of the highlights of my trip. The dirt road to the castle is steep and not for the faint hearted and would recommend... More

We visited in June but the castle itself was shut. It didn't look much from the outside but we had a nice walk around the lands around where there were some nice views. If you want a nice walk in the sun fine, but don't come out of your way for a historical feast at the castle.

We have been to Paderne before but never done this walk and were really glad we did. The castle is almost incidental to the beauty of the walk as it is closed and you really just see the walls but the walk up to it is fantastic. We did it in october so it wasn't too hot. It is a... More

This castle with the close by Roman bridge shows that this area has been ruled by the Romans too - otherwise as you are not allowed to go inside the castle, there aren't that much to be seen here...

While the castle is enjoyable to walk around, the best part of the trip is by far the hiking both to and around the castle. The trails are well marked and offer wonderful views of the countryside as well as a river bed leading to a mill and Roman bridge. If you are in the mood to do more than... More

We visit Paderne regularly, but this is the first time we have gone to the Castle. To be honest, there is very little of the Castle to see, but the views from the summit are breathtaking. A lovely, quiet spot.
