Very disappointed it was closed to the public. I would guess by all the scaffolding and barred access gates that some restoration work is being carried out but its a pity there were no notices advising visitors what was happening.

Let's start with getting to the Paderne Castle. In itself, it can be an adventure as the dusty and bumpy road is not the most pleasant. Secondly, the castle is closed and only opens on request. Thirdly, it is a ruin with not much to...More

Not far off the main road this is a nice place to visit and explore some of the past. Mostly derelict now but has good background information and is situated among lovely countryside and great walking.

Charming ruin with fantastic views. Castle has been thoughtfully preserved with concrete to save it from further collapse. Interesting history and puts the regions culture into perspective.

Open Wednesdays and a good historical site in the Algarve. Here you can learn the history of Portugal in the archeological digs in the Castle grounds.

we have tried to visit this place on several occasions but it is invariably locked up with little or nothing to see. suspect it could be quite interesting if someone did a little work on it

Take the trail that goes along the river to the Roman bridge . Have something to eat and drink by the old mill and bridge than continue along the trail to the castle and enjoy the view.

It's a shame with so few 'cultural' activities in the region to find that the castle was padlocked shut on Sunday afternoon and that all the information panels were defaced or illegible due to the weather and half-hearted repair. Sad, as the history of the...More

Came here on a jeep tour. Was very interesting to see and be up close to a castle that has been there over a thousand years and withstood a major earthquake. You cannot go inside but you can walk all around it and it is...More
