Dating back to the early 17th century, this is one of the city's oldest (if not THE oldest) fountains. It is anything but impressive, but still - its gilded decorations are lovely.

Located in Gammeltorv Square, the oldest square in the Copenhagen, this gilded fountain is dedicated to Charity. Actually this is the second fountain dedicated to this virtue, after a first one which was intended to remind those who witnessed the public executions carried out in the square to be more compassionate towards those who were facing their death sentence instead... This is said to be Copenhagen's oldest fountain, dating from 1608. It is quite delightful with some lovely bronze figures around it. It makes a very good meeting place for the locals.

It’s Copenhagen’s oldest fountain built in 1608 by Christian IV in Gammeltorv (“Old Square”). If you trace the water flow, you will be amused by where the water comes out from, pay attention to both the top woman/charity figure and the boy. It's one of a kind.

Caritas Fountain is the oldest fountain in Copenhagen and is situated in Gammeltorv, a charismatic square along Strøget. The fountain was a gift from King Christian IV to the citizens of Copenhagen, it was originally located in neighbouring Nytorv and was repositioned in Gammeltorv in 1608. Worth a look whilst in the area.

This fountain comes in the same package as you stroll down the Storget (walking street). It is fabulous and is very well decorated. Once it appears it will catch your sigh at once. Nice landmark for meeting and taking pictures.

In an attractive square, generally in out of the shade, this another good sight and photo while touring Copenhagen. Has a nice history, which you get on one of the walking tours. Only a block from Town Hall and near the long shopping street, so easy to find. Nice place to take a break, often buskers nearby.

If you walk at Storget you can't miss this very nice fountain. The mother and her child as statues on the fountain are work from German sculpture. Step by and enjoy the whole square.

Caritas (charity) fountain is in the Gammiltov (old) square, this would have been the bustling market center in 1600s. Christian IV had the fountain built as a public water source. On the top is a figure of "Charity". Some people say this was to show the public how charitable Christian IV was. At any rate the statue on top is... More
