This hippy enclave is an alternative community unto itself, with local handicrafts and a disproportionate number of vegetarians, artists and young people. Go for a walk around the lake or check out one of the watering holes. Best to visit during the day.

I had Christiania on my list of places to visit on my short trip to Copenhagen, and to be perfectly honest, i was not at all impressed. I had it researched, but i guess you don't know til you get there. It is made out...More

How can one beautiful city like Copenhagen to accept this rubbish? Is Unbelievable, gipsy and dirty people that live in the shacks are a place to visit? Never again

The open selling of marijuana and groups of people drinking in the town square was uncomfortable. There is a nice mural honoring Mohammed Ali, Ghandi and others. We got excellent bread and a danish at Holm's Bager but you can find those on Stroget and...More

Christiana was a surprise to me; probably not appropriate for the children but also not a problem that they were there as people discretely carried on and didn't affect us

There's a lot to see outside! I went in the dead of winter so I was extremely cod but I could only imagine how beautiful it is in the summer. I got some cool massage oil from one of the shops. May not be for...More

Amazing place! Hippy village and weed! Cheap and relaxed. I went to the coffee shop and drank hot chocolate! Cheap and friendly

I walked around without staying too long in any one spot. Weather wasn't very nice, so it might have been quieter than it otherwise would have been. Interesting decorations on the buildings, but otherwise not a lot to take in.

Amazing place.... Like an odd little city in a city. Totally crazy, cool and different. Can buy some odd little bits there and listen to good music. You know why you're going there lol

Visited this as part of the tour and I must admit, I was not impressed. The entire place looks run-down (work never finishes here – part of the hippy lifestyle I assume) and the pusher street felt like regimented in what you are allowed to...More

Heard a lot of conflicting views before visiting Christiania myself yesterday. Started as a very promising project which developed into a not so promising reality, after a while. Full of people selling substances to visitors and tourists. An interesting experience though, if you want to...More

Just across one of the many bridges from Indre By,
you’ll find Christianshavn. An eclectic area with old
brick lanes, houses dating back to the 16th century,
and canals which are home to many boats and ships,
some of which has been turned into restaurants or even
serve as fully furnished homes. The best known
attraction in Chistianshavn is Christiania, a “free
town” of residents who squat on a former military

I guess you have to accept it for what it is. It's a community and home to many people who enjoy this way of life. Personally I wouldn't choose to live there myself as myself and my family have different needs but I can... More
