This hippy enclave is an alternative community unto itself, with local handicrafts and a disproportionate number of vegetarians, artists and young people. Go for a walk around the lake or check out one of the watering holes. Best to visit during the day.

Certainly an interesting place to walk through to get a sense of a "Free State". But if you aren't into scoring a bit of funky weed this brief sojourn left me rather underwhelmed! There appear to be some "organicky" looking places to eat but I...More

Nice place, very different for the rest or the city, hippie but at the time kind of comercial too, even if you don't smoke you can have a nice time drinking a beer or having a snack. The majority of the people smoke so if...More

Looks like an old hippie village inhabited by dropouts and druggies. Slightly interesting to see and you can get moderately high from the second hand smoke. Lots of smoking and drinking early in the day plus pot openly for sale. What more can you ask...More

I can both sides of the negative/ positive review argument. I see people wishing to live an alternative, yet positive, life by being part of their community and adding value to their way of life. Then I see drunk layabouts, who sit drinking beer and...More

Vey hippie drop out community and legal pot selling for those in need. Did not invite me in anyway to stop and take refreshment in any of the Cafes. In fact couldn't wait to get out of there and it was daytime. Didn't see the...More

In North America - Canada specifically we have a 'pot-in' where on 420 (April 20th) everyone who feels so inclined to celebrate Cannabis culture - floods the local park - in Vancouver it was Sunset Beach - in ONE day they left behind 6000 lbs...More

Went for a stroll through Freetown Christiania and felt it was a very interesting experience. Lots going on (food, drinks, music - and of course drugs being openly sold and smoked) but had a very friendly vibe and was an interesting place to visit.

Somewhat shabby area inhabited by middle to old age hippies and other dropouts smoking and trying to sell pot. As the rest of Copenhagen is functional and moving forward one wonders whether all cities should have their own Christiania district for the druggies and dropouts...More

The freetownship where the free spiritminded find their refuge is a nice, different visit DAYTIME, with concerts on Sundays during the summer.

This is an experience. This is a Freetown separate from the EU so pot is legal here and sold in kiosks. Beautiful old Danish buildings with graffiti. Many artist studios peppered through (I don't think you can visit) The people that live here had to...More

Just across one of the many bridges from Indre By,
you’ll find Christianshavn. An eclectic area with old
brick lanes, houses dating back to the 16th century,
and canals which are home to many boats and ships,
some of which has been turned into restaurants or even
serve as fully furnished homes. The best known
attraction in Chistianshavn is Christiania, a “free
town” of residents who squat on a former military

I guess you have to accept it for what it is. It's a community and home to many people who enjoy this way of life. Personally I wouldn't choose to live there myself as myself and my family have different needs but I can... More
