Neighbourhood: Indre By (Inner City)
This is the heart of old town Copenhagen, with its blend of charming old buildings and bold new architecture, broad avenues and tiny streets as well as picturesque canals and a modern harbor. The inner city is home to the Royal Danish Theatre, which consists of three buildings, two of which are new and situated on the harbor front. The streets, squares and venues of the inner city and its surrounding neighborhoods, are alive all year round with everything from jazz festivals to outdoor ice skating rinks and parachuting at the lakes right in the center of the city. This compact area boasts beautiful old castles, tranquil parks, and bustling squares where you can always find a bench to stretch out your legs whenever you need a break.

We often visited here and enjoyed the wonderful space, strolling around the fine cobbled area and admiring the exceptional buildings that are an integral part of it.

At its centrepiece is the grand equestrian sculpture of Christian V, honouring the Monarch who in 1670 commissioned what is the largest square in the city. Around the monument lovely gardens add to its attraction.

Numerous eateries abound and we enjoyed fine dining in a number.

This big square in the heart of the old town has many beautiful buildings surrounding it like the Royal Theatre, Magasin du Nord, Hotel D'Angleterre, and Kunsthal Charlottenborg.

Despite the name, the square dates back to the 17th century. Its centerpiece, the equestrian statue of Christian V is from 1688.

As a tourist, you cannot avoid seeing this square. It is steps from Nyhavn and from Strøget, the city's main shopping area.

Large square in the centre of the city, with Nyhavn at the eastern end. Lovely Theatre building and good place to park bikes. Also good for the Golden Arches Ice Cream!

This is one of many places we passed on our tour bus. A big open square with a big statue of the King in the center. The landscaping was nice and we could see a lot of people around. The bus kept moving us toward the center of town.

I don't know if it was the time of year I visited but this square was bit boring. It has many lovely buildings but it gave a feeling as though just for show. Because not much people was hanging around. Maybe in the summer it comes alive.

Good cheap place for a coffee and pastry in the morning. Go before 11 am for their breakfast deal. Good location to enjoy the sun and watch the world pass by.
Coffee is not bad but the pastries are tasty.

A free trip probably wouldn’t take me back to Copenhagen. Absolutely nothing at all to the city. Very boring, drab place. Little character to the place and the square specifically. There’s limited resources to enjoy a full day let alone a full weekend. To make it worse, it’s easily one of the most expensive places I’ve ever been.
Far better places and cities to see around Europe. Would not recommend.

It is a beautiful square decorated with flowers and surrounded by notable buildings, such as the Charlottenborg Palace, Hotel d'Angleterre, Magasin du Nord and Royal Theatre. The landscape is picturesque.

I visited Kongens Nytorv in January when the square was turned into an open air ice rink. You can rent skates (as long as you give them a credit card or driving license for insurance, to guarantee you won't steal the skates - this is pretty standard so don't worry) and spend a few hours whirling around on the ice and living your winter olympic dreams. The square is just west of Nyhavn (New Haven) which is a stunning harbour with great restaurents and bars and looks like you imagine Copenhagen to look like. V Hans Christian Anderson. Besides the square - which I asumme if where shoppers chill out during the summer because the end of the main shopping street "Stroget" - there is a huge glitzy department store called Magasun Du Nord and some hotels.

The most attractive French-style kiosk in the King's Square, playing lovely old chansons francaises, draws people to it like a magnet - especially when they are able to lounge in the sun in the provided deck chairs. But beware. The wine-imbibing proprietor/manager charges like a wounded bull. He seems to pull a price out of the air. From memory I paid 180 DKK for a latte and a chicken roll. I was so gobsmacked I didn'nt even try to query. Caveat emptor, my fellow travellers.
