This fountain is one of several things to see in the immediate area. It features the Norse god Gefjon ploughing the sea to create the island of Zealand. The location means the fountain on a raised area can be viewed from any side. The way moving water portrays the plough is effective and is definitely worth a short visit for to admire the artistry in its construction.

This is a huge magnificent fountain which attracts many tourists. You can find it on your way to or from the Little Mermaid.
It was given to the city by the Carlsberg brewery. It features the Norse god Gefjon who is associated with ploughing.

This historic and legendary fountain is larger than life. The Goddess and her oxen feel like they are in movement as the water rushes around them. Very powerful imagery. There are subtle inclusions in the relief, two large snakes at the lower end as well as the two cherubs spouting water into the pool.

This is a pretty big and very beautiful cascade fountain.
You cannot miss it when heading to Little Mermaid which is just straight ahead, while to the left is the former military fortress of Kastellet.
The fountain depicts Norse Goddess Gefion plowing the sea - an allegory of Sealand island where's the Danish capital. Perfect photo op.

On the way out to the Little Mermaid we found this gem. This fountain was styled on the Norse goddess Gefjon (She has many other spellings) an Earth Goddess who was responsible for the ploughing of the sea to create the area around Copenhagen. It is a large cascade fountain showing Gefjon and her oxen team ploughing the fountain water , which with the flowing water is a very clever effect.

I am in no way normally that impressed with the arts, but i loved this and the rest of our group were also glad we had seen it. It is in a nice area and has a distinctive little church on the right hand side as you go down the side of the cascade. There were a few little food vans around as well. So all in all i found this more memorable that the must see iconic Little Mermaid. Just my opinion mind you, but i would recommend to go and see for yourselves.

One of the things I loved about my visit to Copenhagen was all the unusual statues and monuments. This is a perfect example. Just a lady with her four oxen ploughing.

I was not aware of the folklore behind this fountain but it is worth checking out. I was there just as the sun was starting to set and I got some superb pictures of it. Although it is not moving it is quite dynamic.

Go and see it for yourself!

It is located near the port area of Copenhagen, next to the fortress of Kastellet and not too far from the famous Little Mermaid. I want to clarify that we did not know and unfortunately we never got to know her. This font opened in 1908, inspired by the Norse mythology goddess Gefion. A large pond of water and four oxen complete the work. It's one of the most beautiful in town.

Such a pretty fountain with plenty of water gushing out and cascading down the stepped levels. The statue on top matches well with the rest of the fountain. It is in a lovely area of Copenhagen near the Kastellet, an area which really should be included in any visit to the city.

This fountain is in the Kastellet area right next to St. Alban’s Church. It’s right by the moat that surrounds the Kastellet, and it’s not that far to walk on to the Little Mermaid statue. The area is lovely if you enjoy walking, which I do, and the details on the fountain are gorgeous.

The fountain had been used by our walking tour guide earlier to provide directions to the little mermaid. Due to its close proximity the area is vibrant. You can sit with an ice cream or drink and enjoy the water or people watch. There is also a park and a small pretty church adjacent ,
